I was a bit nervous about reserving at Coral Hammock because the other reviews (only 3) on Tripadvisor had been written many months before our planned stay. I first tried to make a reservation using Orbitz but when I changed the dates of the reservation, the site wouldn't accept another reservation. I ended up contacting the property directly (manager Walt, Keys Luxury Resorts). From start to finish, dealing with Keys Luxury Resorts was a pleasure. Walt and I quickly sorted out the details of our stay via e-mail and he was kind enough to mail me directions to the nearest grocery store and a casual restaurant near Coral Hammock (we were arriving right around dinnertime). We stayed for 5 nights, the minimum stay. The unit we stayed in was spotless, nicely furnished (not luxurious but very comfortable), and had a fully stocked kitchen (including multiple small applicances such as a blender, food processor, etc as well as all servingware). The only necessary kitchen item I couldn't find was a juicer (hey, it's the Keys!). Our unit (#42) had 3 bedrooms and 3 baths and for $395 a night, it was very reasonable. It is on Stock Island, not Key West but it is only a short drive to Key West (10-15 minutes). The property was well-maintained and beautifully landscaped. I was a little concerned to see that the property itself is adjacent to a large mobile home park but it is fenced (you enter with a key code) and we never had any negative experiences. My kids really enjoyed the feral chickens, although, I understand from Walt the property is trying to "evict" them. We found the chickens really added to the Key West ambience (keep the chickens!). The pool was a good size and there was rarely anyone else using it. There was a rowdy crowd that gathered at the pool after 10 pm (the pool closing time) a few nights but we just ignored it (it was the month of spring break!). Walt really was exceptional in his desire to see that we enjoyed ourselves in Key West. He stopped by with a map of Key West the night we arrived and made recommendations for additional restaurants and things to do. We enjoyed Hurricane Joe's and B.O.'s Fishwagon, both casual restaurants that Walt recommended. We tried Louie's Backyard, a restaurant recommended by a guidebook which despite the casual sounding name wasn't so casual. The hostess was visibly distressed when we strolled in with our 3 small children and stated that there was no pasta on the menu (although a quick glance revealed they were serving macaroni and cheese, a kids' pasta classic). We decided to stay anyway because we were starving and had a very nice meal (the food was delicious). So I guess the lesson was--stick with Walt's recommendations! We would definitely go out of our way to stay at Coral Hammock again and strongly recommend it.

Our family of six rented a three bedroom, three bathroom condo. at the Coral Hammock Luxury Townhomes for five nights (May 24-28, 2006). We had unit #23 (upstairs). This gated community is located just outside of Key West on Stock Island. Walt is the manager of the property and I must say, he is one of the hardest working individuals around. He followed up with all of my questions prior to our stay and was very nice. He also was around the property each day working in case we needed something. Walt even found some items we left behind and called us to get our address to mail them to. What a guy! Everything went very smoothly from paying the deposit to leaving the property. This was an excellent experience and well worth the money.

We drove down from Ft. Lauderdale in a mini-van. We arrived in the evening and Walt had provided us the code to enter the property. We had a lock box on our door so we were able to enter the condo. without bothering Walt. We were very pleasantly surprised upon entering our unit. The condo. and furnishings looked new. Everything was extremely clean and comfortable. It was like having a home in Key West. We could definitely get used to that. There are quite a few permanent residents there, so make sure you respect their privacy.

Unfortunately, our unit was not next to the pool, so we had a short walk when we wanted to take a swim. By the way, the pool is very nice and the grounds very well kept. Our unit was next to the highway, so it was a little noisy at times. The condo. was supplied well with very nice cookware, dinnerware and utensils. All of the appliances are very new including a dishwasher, refrigerator with ice maker, flat surface stove (special cleaner under the sink), garbage disposal, blender, coffee maker with filters and mixer. There was also hair dryers in our unit, a couple of beach towels, along with an apartment size washer and dryer. Don't forget to bring your own soap for the kitchen, showers and w/d. We also brought extra paper towels, napkins and toilet paper.

The master bedroom has a cathedral ceiling with a king size bed and four large down pillows. The other bedrooms have ceiling fans. My husband and I thought the beds were very comfortable, but we like hard beds. My niece, who slept in the queen size bed downstairs thought the bed was a little uncomfortable. Their bedroom did not have a television while the two bedrooms upstairs did. The master bedroom has a nice garden tub along with a spacious shower. The master bedroom and living room both have DVD players which we utilized to watch our vacation photos while we were there. We went to the CVS drug store to have the photos from our memory cards transferred over to the disks. I think the cost is like $2.99 a disk.

We saved money during our stay by stopping at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Florida City on the way down to purchase breakfast items, hotdogs, hamburger, beverages, etc. We ate breakfast at the condo. each morning, which was very nice. We visited Bahia Honda State Park and Ft. Taylor State Park during our stay where we BBQ'd burgers and hot dogs each day. That was really fun, although the mosquitos nearly ate us alive at Bahia Honda. Make sure you take repellant if you go there.

Again, we would highly recommend Coral Hammock if you are planning a trip to the Keys.

The Coral Hammock is a great place to stay in Key West. The townhomes are nicely appointed with a full kitchen and nice sized living area. Ours had a nice selection of comfy furniture and we could easily live in the townhome. Ours was a three bedroom unit and the master bathroom had a huge tub and a huge seperate shower. It felt like we were staying at a someone's house. There was plenty of furniture and the interior decor was very tropical. The beds were very comfortable and the a patio was connected to our bedroom where we could sit on breezy afternoons. The kitchen had modern appliances and we even cooked a dinner meal after a snorkeling trip to Dry Tortugas left us too tired to go out. I advise bringing your own supplies (cofee, sugar packets, etc) or buying them from Safeway as the kitchen had nothing stocked. The AC system worked very well and kept it very cool on the humid nights. There is usually enough parking in the area, only when we came back in the evening did we have to park a little further out. The townhomes are well kept and the bright colors are a nice touch.

Yes, the location is outside of Key West proper so I definately recommend renting a car or a moped (easier to park). The drive to Duval street took about 15-30 minutes depending on traffic.

As we were there with my inlaws, the townhome gave us enough room for 5 people. I would recommend this for families as it would allow everyone to have their own bedroom. My in-laws rented this as a part of their time share vacation club, and I don't know the exact rates but I was told it was quite affordable and more competive than some of the hotels in Key West. They rent the units out to non-timeshare people so don't let that deter you. I was told many of the units are rented on long term basis by retirees escaping Northern winters (1-6 months), so it is very quiet at night. I would advise against having a large party there because the residents would not allow it. If you want wild nightlife, this probably isn't the place for you.

I recommend Dry Tortugas for snorkeling (it is a long boat ride but the snorkeling is second only to Maui). Also there are many great restaurants, too many to mention. By the Safeway is a small Italian pizza joint with incredibly good pizzas (New York style pizzas) for a low price. We went there twice because their slices of pizza are huge. I am sorry but I forgot the name. Overall this a great property and perfect place for a relaxing Key West vacation.

A group of us stayed at the Coral Hammock during our Spring Break trip and absolutely loved it! The townhomes are brand new and very nice. Walt (the manager) was wonderful. He made sure that every detail was taken care of before we arrived. He was even very helpful after we left. The one (and only) drawback is that these homes are located on the opposite side of the island as Duval St. But, I wouldn't let that stop me from renting again. I loved this place.
