We stayed here for a week after touring the mainland. After alot of driving about and packing up every night, it was just what we needed for a week of R&R.

We did have to swap rooms a couple of times, but this was because we didn't book - we just rocked up and asked for 2 rooms.

The pools are great, albeit a bit small. The bar is also great, we spent most of our time either there or on the pier, fishing.

It's perfect for a romantic getaway - very quiet and relaxing, you can do things in your own pace, and there are several bars and restaurants nearby - namely Lorelei's across the road, which is where we spent most of our evenings. Fab food, and good live music most evenings too.

I cannot fault this place at all, it was an amazing week for us there and we will definately be back in the near future.

My family stayed at the Islander in early November for 3 nights. I give it an "above average" review because of the value that you get for your money, we paid about $130/night after AAA discount. The hotel was very satisfactory, w/ a full kitchenette, 2 double beds, closet space, a TV, a screened in porch, an outside "patio" w/ only 1 lounge chair (2 would be better) and a shared charcol grill outside the room. All the rooms seem to be close to the pool and the beach area, there was an outdoor restaurant that had daily specials (we didn't eat there except for key lime pie which was good). The staff was helpful, and the continental breakfast was a nice touch, but just for cereal and bagels, the fruit left alot to be desired. The location of the hotel was great, and we saw dolphins swim by and also saw a small squid go along the stairs to the snorkling spot. There are a lot of great things to do in the area, but our favorite day trip was Robbie's which was about 1.5 miles south on the right. They have wild Tarpon that hang out there, it costs $2 to go in, and $3 a bucket of fish if you wish to feed the tarpon, but beware of the pelicans! We had so much fun there, we went everyday to feed the fish and just to hang out. My husband and 9 year old son went fishing w/ Chris, who docks his boat at Robbie's and my son caught 23 keepers yellow-tail snapper and my husband had a 9 foot nurse shark on the line. After their fishing trip, Chris came to the dock to pick up me and my 13 year old daughter and took us for a ride through the mangroves. Another thing we did every night of our stay was tuck the kids in to watch TV for a while so we could go to Lor-e-lei which was across the highway from the Islander. It was a fun place and had happy hour specials. The local's favorite restaurant, which we went to w/ our fresh catch was Lazy Day's, and it was very good. The Hungry Tarpon, just in front of Robbie's, was also good, my favorite was the seared tuna w/ rice and beans. The atmosphere we felt in Islamorada was very friendly and laid back.

Stayed August 18 - 22, 2007

My wife and I have been to the Keys several times on Adult vacations. This time we took the kids. One teenager and a pre-teen. No problems checking in. Room was spacious enough for the little time we spent in it. We had some tiny ants around the bathroom area. Discovered they were coming in through the AC opening. The office staff sent a gentleman down twice and he sprayed while we were out. No more ants.
Pools and hot tub were nice. We prefered the saltwater pool. Food at the Tiki bar was good and reasonably priced for the Keys.
The kids had no complaints. They even got to see an iguana in the tree outside our room.

If you are expecting a 4-5 start hotel in the Keys for the price, you will be dreadfully disappointed. Consider where you are and how far you are from the mainland.

We chose this hotel on a recommendation from a friend who has been vacationing yearly in the Keys. Also Islamorada is a nice centrally located island while in the Keys. We snorkled, sailed, and explored Fort Taylor. Loved the short time we were there

Booked Dec 26 through December 29th initially. Went back to their office 5 times after checking in to add a Saturday night (one additional night). They told me that they had a room for us for that Saturday night (on the beach) which meant we would be checking out on Sunday instead of Saturday. The first night in our room was horrible; our neighbors were moving furniture all night it seemed. We called to complain several times, but to no avail. The next night had new neighbors and MORE problems. There children were running around all night screaming and sitting on OUR private patio. I called to complain, again no results. Seemed more like a trailer park instead of a $220/night resort. The 3rd day we had a horrible ant infestation. We called the front desk several times and although they promised each time to send somebody NOBODY BOTHERED TO SHOW! At this point we only stayed because we had been promised a new room on the beach for our last night (Saturday). When I went to have our room transferred Saturday morning THEY HAD GIVEN IT TO SOMEBODY ELSE! THIS WAS UNBELIEVABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE! I can only guess that they are only a bunch of MONEY GRUBBERS and will make promises only to break them later if they can get more for the room. OF COURSE, they had no explanation. Never again will I stay at this crap-hole!

We were at the Islander on December 15-17 for a wedding. The check in lady wasn't very friendly. At first we weren't impressed when we drove to the room. But when we walked through the room and opened the door to the other side and saw the porch we loved it. We could see a peek of the ocean from our porch in our courtyard view room (217). My sister had an even better view in the room next door (221) We loved the small kitchen. The room was clean. The courtyard was very nice with hammocks and palm trees.

The beach is large and there is large pier. We got to spend some time in the pool and hot tub and they were very nice.

The rooms were clean, the property was nice, and besides the one lady at check in, the staff was very friendly.

We would love to go back someday.
