“A Bad Time Was Had by All”

La Siesta Resort & Marina

This was our 7th stay of over a week at La Siesta. We made our reservation 11 months in advance. The first six we loved. The 7th was a nightmare. The dockage was in poor repair (due to storm damage). We were assigned a boat slip that was dry at low tide. They said that there were no other slips available. We meet a family that was leaving 4 days early and asked the Manager if we could use that slip. We were told that was going to be used by long time clients. I guess 7 times was not enough. The slip sat empty for 3 days and was then given to a walk up. To make matters worse we had an emailed confirmation of the boat slip we were to get. The Manager stated that they did not preassign boat slips. He accused my wife of forging it, which nearly led to a physical confrontation. At least on my part. The Manager was off a few days. Surprisingly things got better, the staff "found" us a boat slip. The shame of it all is that we loved this place. But this experience has soured us on it. As you can tell, after two years I haven't gotten over it. I write this now because I was reding other post and noticed that the Manager mentioned has the same first name. Luckily the fishing was great.

“Loved La Siesta”

La Siesta Resort & Marina

First off, i want to start out by saying that i don't know what some people are expecting when they pass by the Last Chance Saloon. I live in South Florida and travel to the Keys quite often. When i pick places to stay, i am looking for somewhere that is clean, has easy boat access and a good location.

With that said, i think that La Siesta is the best. From the minute we made the left hand turn, we found a well kept facility. We had reserved a 2 bedroom townhouse that we were thrilled with. Of course the furniture was old, and the bathroom was small, but the beds were comfy and the house was clean. It had 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom upstairs, a full kitchen, living room and bathroom downstairs. There was a nice balcony overlooking the ocean and some tables and chairs out in front of the entrance. The entire house was to our liking and definitely a nice surprise for the Keys.

The boat area was spacious. We had reserved a slip which was nice to have to not worry about docking. The ramp was plenty big to put in our friends 26' foot boat and dock it. The resort is located on the Ocean side-convenient to the ever popular sand bar.

The pool was amazing. We were travelling with my 3 year old niece and the pool area was her favorite. It was huge and had a wading entrance (gradual walk-in) so she could sit on the bottom and play with her toys. The was also a pretty cool tube waterslide which was very popular. I even took more than a few spins down it--haven't done that since i was a kid. I noticed there was a man down there with his laptop so i asked if it was a hot spot and he said yes...good to know for next time. They survived complimentary breakfast in the morning in the pool area before 9 am which was a nice bonus. There is even a nice playground for the little ones up by the entrance and i believe there is a whole building that they devote to people who bring their pets. There is ample parking for your car and trailers are parked across the road at their marina.

The location was great. Only a couple miles south of the Tiki Bar for a good landmark. Conveniently located to the Trading Post for all your last minute groceries, Bentley's and Uncles for excellent dinner and about 15 minutes by boat to the sand bar.

La Siesta, in my opinion, is my favorite spot in the Islamorada area. I have stayed at a few other places, which were ok also and you can read my reviews of them too, but La Siesta wins my #1 vote. I would highly recommend it, but make sure to book early--eventhough they are a big resort.

The rooms were unbelieveably dated. There were holes in the walls hidden by curtains and in the doors. wood was hanging off the interior door.. upon reading other reviews Im glad I let it go. The interior door stuck EXTREMLEY bad. We had to wait an hour to get help because the boat slip assigned to us was used by someone unauthorized. No one would give us direction, so we stood there for an hour until we got a emtpy slip. at which there were many. No one at the desk seemed to care on June 15 2007. I actually got a response from a young man that and I qoute was "Whatever". The next day Steve got complaints and I heard he was off that day.
Here is a good one. If you wanted new towels they had to got wash yours and bring them back later. What is that.?
Ok along with that the Mattress cemetary in a parking area . Are they going on the beds or whats up with that?It is gross and creepy to think about. The room was sticky and when I asked after 3 days for someone to vacuum she said I dont know Ill ask and came back with a vacuum than said" I dont if this works or not." maybe just a fill in but still. I do have a favorite room and the view takes over. Its nice to be able to park your boat.

We stayed at the La Siesta resort for 2 nights mid-May. We checked into the property to find the handicapped ramp blocked, so we could not get our luggage, or baby stroller past this. Oh, did I mention, there are NO elevators. Steep stairs, we were on the 3rd floor with more stairs in the unit. This was not mentioned when I booked. Upon entering the unit, I look in the restroom and find dead cockroaches on the floor. The decor is straight from the 70s and very well used. Did I mention the downstairs slider door did not lock and upon calling the maintenance man, he said he could not get it fixed til the next day, so basically, we could not lock the unit. Makes me feel real safe with an infant staying here also. The balcony is shared by 5 or 6 other units, so it is not an individual balcony. We had to be moved bec. of this to a smaller room downstairs, which you had to enter through the bedroom to get to the living area and kitchen. This one was not as bad. The pool area is nice. Breakfast could use some work. The front desk clerk was wonderful. Best part about the place. I would try Cheeca Lodge if you are staying is this area and would like a much nicer place.
