My husband and I stayed at Thorn Casa earlier this month (May). It was an absolutely wonderful experience. Her rooms are all quite private and very tastefully decorated. Thorn is very conscious of the up keep of her place which really shows. She makes herself available for questions although is respectful of your privacy. Her assistants, Mary Ann and Cindy were joyful and eager to make our stay a pleasant one. They too went out of their way to provide a private comfortable atmosphere with the perfect personal touch. A fabulous breakfast was served on our private porch each morning. I can’t say enough about Thorn Casa and the people who run it.
PS. Thorn, if you happen to read this, thank you again for everything, and for tracking me down after we left your place in order to return my favorite ear ring that I left in the room. 

We stayed in the Moroccan Room for the weekend and had a blast. The whole place is full of interesting and quirky knick-knacks - about as far away from an anonymous hotel room as you could possibly imagine. Thorn herself is a charming hostess and always ready with recommendations for places to eat, or to go visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would not hesitate for a moment to go back whenever we are in the Keys. Barry and Cathy

I'm almost afraid to write this review because too many people may find out about this place. My husband and I were informed of Casa Thorn by another establishment that was unable to accomodate us (lucky for us). We immediately fell in love with the grounds and the rooms. A lush backyard garden surrounding the pool was the perfect spot to relax, swim and read. Ms. Thorn, MaryAnn and Cindy made this a very special place to stay. Thank you Casa Thorn!

Casa Thorn Bed & Breakfast

27 May 2008

I stayed at this property for 3 weeks in February. I stayed mostly in the ‘Tiki-Hut’ (it was only $69/night) but spent a few days in Suite 3 and a few in Suite 4. My entire stay was totally awesome! This is truly one of the most unique places I’ve stayed and the owner, Thorn is such a nice lady! She has a lot of interesting stories so you should definitely spend some time talking with her if you aren’t too busy enjoying all of the awesome opportunities that Islamorada and the Florida keys have to offer.

Since I was there for 3 weeks, I learned the history of the property. It was purchased as a small house with very little landscaping about 20 years ago and the owner has slowly added on to it adding lots of different decorations and growing a beautiful garden.

The Tiki-Hut is a very small room but for the price, it can’t be beat. Each morning, I walked from my little hut across the deck to the bathroom which is shared with Suite 4 and by the time I was done getting ready, I had a hot breakfast waiting for me on the deck. Breakfast varied from eggs to banana pancakes, to homemade yogurt and granola but it was always very nice and I was always content. They also served orange juice, tea, and coffee with breakfast everyday. On a side note, the bed was very comfortable and the A/C was ice cold. My only complaint is that the TV had a bit of a fuzzy signal but overall it worked.

Sharing a bathroom and having a small room is no issue for me but if you need more space and a private bathroom, any of the other rooms other than the Tiki-hut or Suite 4 will be great. As I mentioned, I stayed in Suite 3 which has it’s own private patio area with a couch and table where you get your breakfast. Again the beds were comfortable and the A/C ice cold. There is also a ton of floor space so you can spread out and enjoy yourself.

My favorite room (although I never stayed there) is the Secret Garden room which has a shower that opens up to a private garden outside. It sounds kinda strange until you see it and realize that it’s probably pretty cool.

If you have a bicycle, definitely bring it to Islamorada as there is a paved bike path that runs almost the entire length of the keys and can be picked up a block away from Casa Thorn. Be careful on the bridges as the bike path isn’t complete on most of them yet.

Finally, I’ve seen some negative reviews on this site, in particular, related to mosquitoes. Most of them are completely ridiculous. If you go to the Florida Keys in the summer (or any time of the year) there are absolutely going to be mosquitoes. There are no mosquitoes or any other bugs in the rooms (at least the rooms I stayed in) and every morning, the outside of the entire property is sprayed for mosquitoes which kills about 95% of them. You can have a lame vacation and stay in some mega resort where you don’t even know what city your in or you can save your money and stay in the Casa Thorn a real Florida Keys Gem where you’ll get a taste of what the Florida Keys are really all about. Stay in Casa Thorn. I’m telling you, you’ll be glad you did!

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at Casa Thorn in the Secret Garden room. Overall it was a wonderful experience! The room was was well decorated, and we had breakfast in the secluded garden area underneath the neighboring coconut trees (wonderful!). Thorn gave us helpful tips for the area along with a guide sheet, which was very helpful. We even saw an albino bunny running around outside, which belongs to one of the neighbors whom allows them to run free (very interesting). The breakfast was great, and the service was exquisite. We will definitely be staying at Casa Thorn in the future!
