I am so glad, again, that I didn't trust other reviewer's opinions on Pelican Cove! This was my second stay, a year later and I was as pleased with everything the second time as I was the first time! I applaud them for their recycling efforts and only found ONE ant the whole time I was there - and was terrified after reading the reports of BUGS! This resort not only met my requirements, but look at the view and the price! What are your priorities? I had the best view, the best balcony with two chairs and a table, I lacked for nothing and the price was great! No, there is no room service, but there is also NO PARKING FEE! My husband and I flew from SC and our flight was delayed so much that we arrived at 9:30 pm instead of 3:00 pm. We were starved and when we checked in the same guy that was there last year checked us in and told us there wasn't much to choose from as far as supper was concerned at that time of night, but after asking about a couple of places we had passed, he offered menus and advice about each one of them. We took his advice and were so tired the next day, all of my plans sight seeing went out the window and we were content to sit in our room because the view was just awesome! I could wake up to that view every day! We did walk over to the marina just south of the Pelican Cove and found several Tiki Bars and lots of gift shops and places to eat, shop, rent a boat or just about do anything you could want - within a short walking distance. I also asked about the Hungry Tarpon at Robbie's Marina and again, they offered me a menu, but I had been here, online and saw such great reviews that I decided we couldn't go wrong eating there. I was right! It was great, Chef Joseph was so sweet and a real character - he almost got my husband drunk on pumpkin pie, he poured so much coconut rum on it! It is so small and off the road, you really have to be looking for the place, but it is so worth it! I am going to try and attach some pictures of our trip - I wouldn't advise you if I didn't back this up completely! I have been to places in Spain, Ireland, France, Italy, Switzerland and all over the US. I am picky but love the places that are not a "chain restaurant or hotel" and find that you get the best of the local atmosphere when you stray a little off the trail! The only thing I would do is swim with the dolphins, everybody I talked to said it was a "spiritual experience" but for the price, I think I had my own spiritual experience just seeing the sunrise from my bed at the Pelican Cove! One last comment: I planned this trip completely because I am a NASCAR fan and wanted to go to the last race in Homestead-Miami and I have close family living there that I wanted to see. My husband does not care a thing about racing and goes along to make me happy, so I planned the Keys part of our trip just for us to be together and relax. He was more than pleased, again, and when we moved up to a Holiday Inn in Miami to be closer to the race track, he said we should have stayed at the Pelican Cove!
