Sun Lake is an awesome value! For $76/night thru bookit.com, we got a 3BR, 2BA amazing condo unit (during Spring Break week!). We were impressed with the spaciousness of the unit and quality of the furnishings as soon as we walked in. Our unit overlooked the pond/wetland (there is no lake) which my husband, who is a nature nut, absolutely loved. We even had a bobcat pass through one morning! The beds were very comfortable with lots of closet space and a washer/dryer right in the unit. There were a total of three TV's in the unit which was very nice. The pool was nice also. Even though it is on a major highway, you would never know it as it is set back far enough from the road. We never had any traffic noise and the view from the screened in deck was so relaxing. Very nice to come back to after a busy day at the parks. There is a brand new Super Target just down the road which was very convenient to purchase everything we needed. They also have a nice selection of Disney souvenires for a fraction of the price in the parks. It took us five minutes to get to the Disney parks -- if that is where you are spending the majority of your time, this is definitely the place to stay. We've stayed in condos before and have usually had to purchase things like TP, paper towel, soap, etc. so that was no surprise as it was expressed in other reviews. There were only 4 bath towels and 2 washclothes so that was a bit inadequate and we had to purchase more. Also no dish towels/clothes in the kitchen. The two complaints we had were that the floors were absolutely filthy. I took off my shoes when we arrived and by the time I had walked to the back bedroom, my white socks were black! You could see and feel the dirt on the floors. There was no vacuum or broom so we were stuck that way for the week. They would do well to equip each unit with a Swiffer or some means of cleaning the floors. There was no carpet in our unit -- tile and linoleum throughout so be aware if you have little ones -- the flooring is cold and hard (and dirty). The other complaint was the lack of lighting. There was no overhead lighting in any of the rooms except the kitchen and that combined with the heavy, dark furniture made it feel dreary and was difficult to read. We actually bought a floor standing lamp and then returned it before we left for home-- it was that dark. One minor complaint was that there was no internet service in the units, but that forced us to truly "get away". Those complaints were minor compared to the value and location of Sun Lake -- we would definitely stay there again!

My family visited the area and spent a week at the Sunlake Resort, late January into Feburary 2009. It was great for the money, we got a great nightly rate on bookit.com.
So to begin with, there is no wireless internet access available in the condo. You must go to the clubhouse to get online.
The clubhouse has a small gym, a small room with pool table, and a desk to setup your laptop. The pool area was of course right next to this and at the time we visited it was too cold to check out the pool, so I have no comment about that area.
Back to the condo, the bathrooms were equipped with only one roll of tissue, and meant a priority trip to the grocery store soon after our arrival. The other paper products we were prepared for, and we even had brought some of our own towels and facecloths, although they were available in the room, with no problem. There was a like new washer and dryer in the condo so you could was whenever you needed to. Advice to anyone who has not stayed at a condo before, bring a little laundry detergent from home, otherwise you end up buying a large container at the grocery store that you will only have to leave behind.
So the condo was a little used looking, although not dirty or old. An obvious rental property. The location was great with many restaurants and shops within walking distance. A great Cracker Barrel right around the corner. The location for driving into the theme parks, also great!
Overall a pleasant stay with not a lot of noise, as it was off the main road a little, and easy check in and out!

When I booked this condo on-line I was al ittle skeptical that it would be as good as some of the reviews but I must say overall we were very pleased. We rented a huge 3 bedroom/3 full bath condo that was very well appointed with lovely furniture and artwork. The dining room was spectacular when you walk in as it is all completely set on a lovely table and chair set. The kitchen was huge and very clean but you must remember that the condo supplies no paper or kitchen linen products other than one roll of T.P. per bathroom. Remember to bring or buy toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body soap), a dishrag, T-towels, papertowel, extra TP, a couple of extra large garbage bags, dishsoap, dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, anti-static sheets, salt/pepper, sugar packets, scissors, plastic wrap or baggies for extra food stuff. There is a blender for morning smoothies and afternoon Margaritas! There is no hairdryer in any of the bathrooms...There were plenty of towels for our stay and there is an in suite washer dryer for laundry which is such a bonus. There is a full size ironing board and iron. There were some carpet stains and scuff marks on the wall but it didn't detract from the overall appeal of the place. We were able to rent this huge condo for an amazing internet rate of $68.00 per night which included a $25.00 gift certificate for a local pizza/pasta restaurant which we did use but will tell you that the wait for pizza is 20-30 minutes so if you are really hungry...you may want to go elsewhere. The deep dish pizza at Gordiano's did look amazing but we were too hungry to wait. Of course like many Florida attractions - there is a "picture taker" who insists on taking your picture so they can offer you a package at about $20.00. I confess we did buy the $6.00 key chain photo as my daugther wanted it for her book bag. There is a balloon lady there too...so be prepared to tip her as well.....

The property is gated but surprisingly the gates are never locked so why bother with the gates? I guess it was decorative and gives the illusion of security........I never felt unsafe, however there is no in-room safe so stash your passports or valuables somewhere safe or better yet take them with you.

The closeness to Disney is perfect....about a five minute drive on the highway and you are there....The hotel is off the highway a bit but you can walk to the plaza next door where there is a grocery store and several restaurants. The check in office for the hotel is nearby and they were very efficient at checking in and out.

A couple of other issues .....We had no deck chairs or table for the balcony when we arrived but really it was too cold to sit there anyway. When I called the rental company - they almost immediately brought them over. The condo seemed rather dark at times as the sun didn't filter through to the rest of the condo as the sunny side had a partial walled in area which was the first den or living area as you enter..... so the rest of the condo felt quite dark most of the time. I think the most disappointing thing was that on a day we thought we'd just stay at the condo and laze around the pool we found that the water could not have been heated and I found I was unable to tolerate swimming in it and the hot tub was just barely warm. I wouldn't let that stop you from booking this great deal in Orlando though.......unless using the pool and hot tub is a priority while at the resort. Overall, I highly recommend this over a regular hotel room in Orlando...there is nothing like feeling like you are coming back to something that resembles a home after a long day walking the theme parks!

This was a great place to stay. Very close to Diseny World. We were there for 3 night's. The only thing is, we were on the second floor and we have a 3 children and apprently when you are walking around on "tile" floors the people down stairs can hear you walking!!!! Also, we wished there were more then "ONE" tv in the condo. Other then that, we enjoyed staying there and we will stay again. One more thing, if you are staying more then one night, don't forget to bring toliet paper. :)

We are DVC members who normally stay at Saratoga Springs but we headed down for Halloween and have already used our points. We considered other options and then my wife found this place. We figured for the rate it would be worth the gamble.

I did some research before going down because the price seemed to good to be true. Actually our experience was pretty good. If you go down expecting a Disney Deluxe Resort then you will be very dissapointed, but if you go expecting a Motel 6 you'll be very impressed. The size of the floor plan alone made up for the small inconveniences. Plus if you forget something there is a Publix within walking distance of the rooms.

True enough, they only provide one garbage bag, one roll of toilet paper for each bathroom and no dish soap or laundry detergent. However they say it is a "self service resort" so we brought our own and didn't have any problems. The linens were clean and there were plenty of towels. The rooms were nicely decorated and the paint looked fresh. We actually had three TVs and two DVD players in our room. There was a 50" projection in the living room area and then a 25" with DVD player in the King room and Queen room. The kitchen was beautiful with a full sized refrigerator, stove, microwave and dishwasher.

Checking in was easy and all of the girls were very nice. They did ask for our credit card info for "incedentals." When I checked out they wouldn't give me a receipt showing I didn't owe anything since I booked through Hotels.com. Strange. I asked for just a printout of the screen she was looking at to show I didn't have any charges but she said "we can't reveal our rates", again strange. So now I'm watching my card to make sure they don't try to tack on anything after the fact.

If you stay less than three days they will charge you a $65 cleaning fee. I don't know why. Considering I paid $68/night for the room it would be cheaper to stay the extra night. It's also the off-season so the room rate is probably much higher during the high season.

The carpets definitely needed to be cleaned. Its the first thing you'll see but check out the rest of the room before you make your judgement. The floors were obviously vacuumed just lots of stains. We didn't have a problem with our one year old crawling around on the them, but it would help their image if they actually had them steamed cleaned once in a while.

Be warned that the street, Irlo Bronson, looks like the Vegas strip. Lots of lights, lots of big signs. The rooms are set well off the strip though and you won't see any of it once you get back there.

We didn't see any bugs at all. As a matter of fact, our balcony was completely screened in so you could sit out without worrying about mosquitos. Might be the time of year since it is getting a little cooler in late October. There is a big pond nearby so I can imagine the bugs getting thick in the spring and summer.

Our view was very strange during the day. We were at the very back of the property so our balcony faced away from the main drag. It looked like were looking into an abandoned parking lot to some kind of old dinner show. The concrete is still there and in the distance you could see a building but it's fenced off and marked "no trespassing". On the plus side there aren't any lights in the lot so at night it was very pretty.

When it was all said and done, we had a great time. The location is within about a 15 min drive to all of the parks. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. The rooms were quiet and very spacious. The pool and gym looked nice but we didn't try them out. I would definitely go back.

  • Disliked — Carpets are stained but clean.
