We went to Miami for one last nice weekend alone before our first child is born in late September, and decided to stay at a hotel by the airport on our last night in town to make our 7 a.m. flight home easier to manage. We chose the Comfort Inn and Suites on NW 36th Street because of their free airport shuttle, and because every other Comfort Inn and Suites we have stayed in has been relatively new and clean.
This was very bad. First of all, the front desk clerk who checked us in said the airport shuttle would be happy to pick us up at the rental car return place, and even gave us a card with the number to call when we were ready. When I actually called to tell them we were at the return place, the (rude) employee informed me they would only pick up at the terminal, but I could take a cab. I told him I would take the rental car company's FREE shuttle to the airport terminal, and his hotel's FREE shuttle could pick me up there, since that was the whole reason we picked this location! Then when we were actually on the shuttle from the terminal to the hotel, we stopped at a red light on the same corner as our rental car return place. So much for going the extra mile... these folks wouldn't even go the extra 10 yards for us.
Our first room had a broken television, so we asked to have it changed out or to be moved. The desk clerk acted like it was an imposition on them, but gave us a new room anyway. (No apology for the broken t.v. or anything, either...) We moved our stuff out of the tower we were originally in over to a new tower, and our new room was worse. The t.v. worked, but the A/C was turned off when we got there (and it has been in the 90's in Miami that day), and the room was hot and musty smelling. We decided to make the best of it, turned the A/C on high, and proceeded to get ready for bed. We ended up sleeping with no covers on their worn, fuzzy sheets because it never cooled down.
The room itself was stinky and didn't feel clean. The housekeepers are obviously sloppy. Ceiling had water stains. The standard cheap motel amenities were there- little bar of soap, etc., but they forgot the shampoo. Would never, ever send anyone there. Pay the extra $20 and stay at the Embassy Suites!
