“Hotel Chelsea very disappointing”

Hotel Chelsea

Good marks for Art Deco design but that's where the complements end

Very poor ambiance ...vibe is over formal and trying too hard to be cool

The place has an identity crisis night club or cool hotel ... it does both badly. The club in the lobby is small but very noisey , no clubbers / customers...just noise so it is impossible to get a good night sleep ...

If you want to party go to an all night club and save money on a hotel , if you want to sleep go somewhere else

“Bachelorette Party Weekend - Wonderful time!”

I organized a trip for group of 10 females in the 27-30 age range who decided to travel from Detroit to Miami to have a bachelorette party weekend. I feel like I looked through every hotel website and read every review. I know how important accomodations are. They can make or break a trip. I had read the various reviews so I was a little afraid because one review said there were roaches. Trust me that wasn't the case. Everything was very clean. The rooms were bigger than I was expecting and the beds were very comfortable.

We found the staff to be incredibly accomodating. When we arrived it was around 12 noon and check in isn't until 3:00pm. Since our rooms weren't ready they were happy to hold our luggage for us and recommend somewhere to get lunch. When we got back they had already went ahead and placed all of our luggage in one of the rooms for us (we were all on the same floor very close to one another). On our last day they also gave us a few extra hours in our room which was great bc we needed it to recover and get out things together. I appreciated that because the fact that we had 3 rooms and they let us all stay longer really helped us out.

There is a super comfortable outdoor lounge in front of the hotel. They have these comfy couches and tables and the atmosphere was so relaxing that all the ppl staying there started to chill out and talk together.

There was a great liquor store not too far so we bought everything we wanted and weren't too concerned about the daily vodka happy hour.

The location is so wonderful. Washington Ave. is not as loud and busy as ocean drive and some other streets which was nice. Don't get me wrong we were super close to the action but it was nice to be on a quieter street as far as chillin outside in the daytime. We also had BED right across the street and cute little stores in a plaza across the street.

We did have a minor problem with a charge on my credit card for some stuff from the wet bar but I was kinda prepared for that frfom reading the other reviews. The wonderful thing was that it was so easy to rectify. The hotel group that owns the hotel chelsea and like 5 other hotels is very organized and I sent one email explaining the situation and it was taken care of.

Oh as far as the passes to the clubs we did get passes to Mansion which is only a block away - but when we got to the door of Mansion they said that the passes had to be redeemed before noon. We didn't care because there was plenty of other clubs.

Mario was the main person at the desk our whole weekend. He was AMAZING! Very professional and always willing to help us with any questions. When we go back to Miami we all want to stay there again.

Also I got a better price from the Hotel Chelsea website than I saw on hotels.com.

You can't beat the price compared to other hotels in that area. It was small, but comfy, the bed was great and big. Be sure not to touch all the items they have in the room they are for sale. A snickers for $2.00, you can go to CVS & get it for $.65. It was very clean, everyday we got new towels and our bed made. the mirrors in the bathroom are great. not too much space for your luggage, but if you are going just for fun, this is the right place. Do not recommed family trip. Also the halls are completely dark, so watch your step. The check in & out was very fast. The hotel has happy hour with vodka drinks which is cheap vodka but every one @ the hotel comes down for. The perfect location only 2 blocks from the beach & the strip. I would recommend to eat other places South Beach is over priced for what they offer eventhough some places have specials @ certain times of the day.
I would most defenelty stay @ the Chelsea again!!

“It's OK - Great location”

Not bad at all. The reviews were too negative.

Functional and cleaned everyday.

The room was a little bit dark but it's OK if you only use it to sleep at night.

Close to shopping, clubs and beach : very convenient.

I must first say that if you are going to South Beach and staying at an art deco hotel do not expect the Ritz. I go to South Beach once (sometimes twice) a year and have stayed at 8 of them now. They all have nice lobby's but the rooms are always small, run down, and dingy. Just expect this at any of them unless you are willing to fork out $300-$800 per night at the Delano or Lowes.

The Chelsea: The staff was really friendly. Checkin was quick. The lobby is nice and there is also a nice patio in front of the hotel. The location is perfect. In the middle of it all! They hotel could do something better than a cheap vodka drink for happy hour. For $165 a night you should get whatever you want.

The room needed some help but the modern bathroom was very nice. I loved the slate tile and modern fixtures (HOT!!). The bed was very comfortable. I expect a small room in South Beach but I was suprised that this room was a good bit larger than the typical SOBE room.

They owners should have spent an extra $2 per square foot and put down real bamboo floors. The fake bamboo floors were poorly installed and brought down the overall character of the room. The hallways need better lighting (just put in 100 watt bulbs). The carpet in the hallways should be changed. It was dirty and old. This should be done at least every 2-3 years not every 20 years.

It's an overall good hotel. I would stay again however like all South Beach hotels it is in need of help and a remodeling.
