We tried this place based on the TripAdvisor reviews. At that time it was listed as "Macarena Tavern," so when we got there and noticed the menu was headed "Antigua," and the tasting menu described was not on it, we weren't sure we were in the right place. When we asked the waiter, he said he didn't know a place by that name but that they did offer a tasting menu. Normally they offer it to large groups, but he'd ask the chef if we could order that. He came back shortly and said we could, so we did.
There is no question that this is a FANTASTIC value for Miami Beach. I think it was the only night our tab ran less than $100, and some of our lunches were considerably more expensive as well. For $42 each, I believe it was, we got a spinach salad, generous portions of 3 or 4 appetizers, two different entrees: paella Valenciana and a churrasco-style steak, tiramisu, and...get this...unlimited Sangria and wine. We started out with the sangia and when dinner arrived, moved on to the house cabernet, which was really very good. The food was pretty good, too; not superlative, but pretty good. The service was absolutely fantastic. Waiters were very attentive and kept offering us MORE of everything...we were told numerous times that if we particularly liked any of the dishes, to just ask for more. You'd be well served to fast beforehand so you'd be extra hungry!
Then, the entertainment. When we first arrived, at 7:30 or so, there weren't many people there. Things don't get hopping till later. The entertainers started around 10, I think, and by then the place was full. The singer was an Argentine (I overheard) man with a beard who wore wide flowy culottes, a bandanna on his head, a skintight lace shirt, and a red shawl or scarf draped theatrically over one shoulder. He was so obviously having a great time performing that he made it fun for the whole audience. At one point he walked off the stage and mingled among the diners, inviting some to finish a musical phrase he repeated, which many did. A man at the table in the back sang the best "un poquito mas," and got loud cheers from the whole audience. The singer alternated the floor with some great flamenco dancers.
We had a lot of fun. I got the impression that many of the patrons were locals, not tourists. All were having a great time. The owner (I assume, anyway) came to our table as we were ready to leave to make sure we were happy with everything. We were.
