We stayed here December 8, 2006, as we had a cruise leaving Miami the next day. Since we had booked our cruise at the last minute, and did not know that on this particular weekend there was a Miami Dolphins game in town, there were no other hotels available. Thre was obviously a reason this hotel still had rooms.
The good:
Reception is extremely friendly and helpful. Check in and check out are both very fast and efficient.
There is free pick-up service from Miami Airport to the hotel, but you must call the hotel once you arrive at the airport for the hotel van to pick you up.
The bad:
The room, while clean, smelled. It had either a musty smell or a urine smell, which sort of went away after we turned on the air conditioning. The windows do not open in the room so it could just have been the smell of many people over time in a very closed space.
The hotel is basically located in the middle of nowhere. There is no pool, no hottub, and if you don't have a car, there is nothing within walking distance, you will need a cab. There is no restaurant in the hotel either.
When you check in you are given a 20% off coupon for the IHOP next-door (the only restaurant nearby). We arrived around dinner time, and the IHOP was the only place to eat. We should have stuck with the pancakes!!!
There is a breakfast buffet in the morning that is located in a room off the entrance. There is a steam table with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, gravy, pancakes and danishes. There was coffee, tea, juices and fruit. The breakfast buffet was just ok.
The real downside was that front desk had recommended a specific car service to take us to the Port of Miami, and we did call and arrange for next day pick up on their recommendation. The next morning, after waiting outside for over an hour, not a hardship since the weather was beautiful, we went back in and had the front desk call to find out where the driver was. He then advised them he was not going to come today at all. The hotel receptionist was very apologetic and immediately arranged for a taxi to come and pick us up.
Basically, I would recommend that you stay in this hotel only if there is nothing else available. The hotel itself is decent, but is seriously lacking in amenities, especially for a hotel located in Florida, where you would at least hope to spend a long evening soaking in a hot tub or in a pool. Because of the location, if you fly into Miami and don't have a car, you need to get a cab to go anywhere.
Even though the reception desk people are very nice, I would think twice about trusting their recommendations as far as eating in the restaurant next door, or using their car service to the cruise port.
