What can I say? The price was right considering the time of year (spring break - little to be had & steep prices).
Let's start with the hotel staff, which was just OK. They were never rude, but never went out of their way to be of assistance either. Additionally, as the hotel only has one elevator, I encountered housekeeping staff moving their supply carts between floors on several occasions at varying times of the day, and at times they seemed a bit perturbed that I wanted to use the elevator to get up to my room. Being young & self-sufficient I didn't really need much from the staff, but i could easily see someone who needed more assistance running into a hassle at this hotel.
Now onto the room - it was everything I could've expected for the price, maybe even a little more. Thanks to my AAA discount I had my pick of room types at the same rate and so went with the 1 bedroom with pullout couch, microwave & fridge. The room was overly spacious for one person and had a very comfortable bed (pillowtop mattress believe it or not), couch & chair with ottoman. My only complaint about the room itself was the lack of closet space. There was no actual closet here, what i had was an indented section of wall behind the door which had a small closet rod inserted. For one person, it was adequate. I would have preferred to have an actual closet in which to stow my luggage, but the ample floor space I had made up for this minor inconvenience.
Now on to my big complaint with this hotel: the wake up calls, or should I say lack thereof. This was a 4 night stay. Each night, I called the front desk & asked for a wake up call. Two of those calls were never received. Thankfully my cell phone rang the first time (night #2) and the second time (night #4) I was smart enough to set the alarm clock as backup. I didn't get the chance to speak with any hotel staff about this problem as I was pretty busy during my stay, but I put in an e-mail to their corporate office so we'll see what they have to say.
Overall, this place wasn't bad. I had relatives staying at the Holiday Inn Express across they way who paid more, and my room was bigger & nicer in my opinion. If you're not the type who demands a four star hotel you will be pleased with what you get at this La Quinta. I don't think I'd recommend it for seniors or those in need of alot of assistance, as the staff here didn't seem too accomodating, but if you're pretty self-reliant you'll be fine. Just be certain to set the alarm clock!
