We stayed at the Hacienda Del Sol II complex in New Smyrna Beach, 4301 S. Atlantic Ave. condo #402 on June 28, 2007 – July 5, 2007.
COMPLEX: The complex was very clean and nicely kept. It is on the no driving part of the beach. Cate was very helpful coordinating my reservation. John was up at 6am every morning cleaning and getting things ready for the day. There was a lack of parking and this was due to the 4th holiday and all the families and friends that arrived. We had to park on the grass along Atlantic Ave. because there were no parking spots. The complex was VERY CROWED with families, infants, toddlers and teenagers.
CONDO: UNIT#402 was on the 4th floor set back from the rest of the complex. It was very clean and well appointed. There were many supplies for you from laundry soap to dish soap to Ziplock bags. There were 3 TV’s one in each bedroom and one in the living room. The cable channel selection was very good. The VCR/DVD and I was able to tape the Cubs games when we were at the beach. The patio was nice and had an ocean and pool view. The air conditioning worked well. The blinds on the patio door and master bedroom were old and could be replaced. We purchased Boogie boards and a cooler and left them for others to use.
POOL: The pool was very clean but too small for the amount of people in the complex. They could use more lounge chairs. In the afternoon it seemed the teenagers would take over the pool.
BEACH: The beach was very nice. It was our reason for returning to New Smyrna Beach. The lounge chairs are not allowed on the beach. John was very nice to give us two portable chairs to use during our stay. The beach is excellent for walking and hunting for shells. It is also nice for bike riding. There was more seaweed than usual on the beach during this trip. It was fun boogie boarding when the surf was high. The water temperature was 82 degrees and cooled you off during a hot day.
RESTAURANTS: Get to the restaurants by 5pm because they get busy fast. Expect to wait for a table in almost all the good restaurants. We would recommend the following in NSB:
The Beacon for breakfast is excellent with large portions.
Blackbeards is excellent.
Riverside Grille is excellent but pricey.
New Smyrna Beach Steak House is excellent.
Clancy"s for Mexican is great.
IN DAYTONA BEACH:
Portofino Italian was good and very reasonably priced.
We would not recommend in NSB:
Norwoods has lost its ambience of being an upscale restaurant. In 2005 our experience was excellent. In 2007 our experience was not so good. The buss boy would clean a table by brushing what was on the table to the floor with a paper towel. The carpet was full of crumbs and very dirty. The clothing worn by the employees was poor. Service was slow and food was average. The people in the table next to us were on the cell phone during our entire dinner. This was very annoying. Go somewhere else.
CANAVERAL NATIONAL SEASHORE PARK: Visit the Canaveral National Seashore Park at the south end of A1A Atlantic Ave.. There are several places you can park you car and go down to the beach along the six mile stretch of beach. It is unspoiled and not crowed. Take your camera because you might see a large turtle.
SUMMARY: Hacienda Del Sol II is very nice for families. We would have preferred a less crowded place without the screaming kids running around. I understand the owners, their families and friends spend the holidays here and it's going to be crowded. Of course we will return to New Smyrna Beach, we were married on the beach there.
