My husband and I recently spent a week at WDW in the Grand Floridian for our honeymoon (10/8-10/15). At first we hit a couple of bumps in the road. (1) We couldn't find where to drop our bags for concierge and ended up parking across the street only to haul our bags in with us. (2) Once we got in we were told it would be a half-hour wait for our room to be ready (ok, fine), but they also told us they'd let us know when it was ready (we sat near the desk in the grand lobby). So we waited ~45 minutes only to ask and find out our room had been ready for 20 minutes. At that point we asked if it would be possible for concierge to take our bags (and us) up to our room, since the place is rather spread out and tough to navigate on your first day, and they told us it would be another 20 minutes. We ditched that idea (after making us wait 25 minutes longer than we had to, I though it was the least they could do, but oh well) and dragged our bags up to our room.

At least when we got there, there was a big bottle of Evian and a box of truffles waiting for us, which we later learned were part of our stay (in other words, no $10 bottles of water unless you pull it out of the mini-fridge). The room was pretty nice-- not as nice as some places I've stayed, but pretty close. The furnishings were really different than your average hotel, giving it a homey feel.

After our check-in problems, service was top of the line from then on in. I forgot a razor, which was not available in the shop downstairs, and they brought up two with a can of shaving cream free of charge. The maid and turn-down service was impeccable, and we even got champagne and a rose from Mickey and Minnie (with an autographed photo). We thought that was sweet.

The convenience of the Grand Floridian can't be beat-- it can only be matched by the Contemporary and the Polynesian. Being on the monorail line is the way to go if you're visiting WDW if you want to get in and out of the parks quickly (especially if you have young children with you).

As far as WDW in general, here are our suggestions:

*Go with a meal plan. We got the premium one, but even that can be a bit too much food. At least go with the standard one-- if you look at your check at the end of each meal, you'll probably find it was worth it, money-wise, plus you don't have to worry about carrying credit cards/cash at all, then, unless you want to buy souvenirs.

*Pick where you want to eat each night (you may want this to coincide with the nights each park stays open late) and make reservations when you arrive at WDW-- before, if possible. We missed at least two restaurants we wanted to try because we couldn't get a reservation.

*Eat off-peak if you can. We ate at the Grand Floridian Cafe for breakfast every day, usually after 10AM. The one day we went earlier we had to wait for a table, and people around us were snapping at the hostess because they weren't getting seated in front of people with reservations. Not a pleasant scene, but the staff handled it beautifully.

*If you stay at the Grand Floridian, spring for a room with a lagoon view, as opposed to a garden view. At first I didn't think it was that big a deal, but within a day I realized it was worth being able to see Cinderella's castle and watch the Magic Kingdom's fireworks shows from our balcony.

Generally the Grand Floridian was a very, very pleasant stay, with outstanding service (at least after our initial impressions). We would go there again in a heartbeat, of course, to see WDW again but probably wouldn't stay anywhere else but the Grand Floridian!

This hotel is absolutely amazing. Me and my wife got married at The Wedding Pavillion close to the Grand Floridian. Absolutely magical day. I will however focus on the hotel. Everyone has to understand there is always going to be a fast food counter service in most hotels. Now to say this food was excellent would be a lie, just normal pizza and burgers. It wasn't at all busy when we went in though. This resort is definately not noisy. If you want a noisy resort stay at the All Stars! The pools where amazing the beach was stunning and the staff where very helpful. Anything you needed they did there best for you. Getting back onto the food. The Grand Floridian Cafe was really nice. Not overly priced and very tasty food. Offered more than just burgers, in fact was the first place I've seen to offer mushroom soup. Citricos was superb the food was marvelous and the service was perfect. When we told them that we where getting married in two days they first of all congratulated us and made special deserts for us. The service was so good we had to get a picture with the waiter and we give him a generous tip. Now last but not least is the best restaraunt in all of Orlando. Victoria & Albert's. This place is quite expensive but it is totally worth it. The service out of this world and the food where works of art on each course. The block that we stayed in was the Sugar Loaf building. Again Concierge service very helpful and the room was very elegant. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've slept in abroad. The transport to the other parks is really amazing. Monorail to either Magic Kingdom or Epcot and the bus service to any of the others with a minimal wait time. Do not let other reviews sway your decision in staying here as this resort was truly magical and we are planning on staying here again for our Wedding Anniversary next year. Absolutely top notch!

We stayed at the Grand Floridian for 2 weeks,Sep 21st until 5 th of Oct .We paid for lagoon view room and were given a castle view, wow what a magical view! Our 2 young children loved the 2 pools, staff were friendly and helpful, we didn't like the grill and arcade too noisy and food horrible. The cafe seved delicious breakfasts, dinner was ok. Narcoosees was nice, Citricos we felt the food was over salted. Afternoon tea was good. Transport to the parks was superb well worth staying on site for this On our sons birthday we booked the wishes cruise to watch the fireworks from the lagoon, wonderful!. We used Kids Nite Out babysitting service 3 times I would use them again, excellent care given by Nancy, we had a nice time and would stay again.

Stayed at the Grand Floridian 9/28-10/2 2006.

This is a great resort for disney. It is not by any means a top hotel. The rooms are very nice. However, you still have the
same problems the other resorts have. There is a large arcade.
People put there towels over the balcony , there is a fast food
taken counter. The pool is over crowned.

On the plus side the room and grounds are very nice.

If you want the best disney has to offer, this is the resort.

If you want a cut above, you need to look outside of the disney resorts.

Stayed at the GF from Sept.25th-30th, this was our first visit here and we couldn't of been more pleased! The magical express service picked us up in the evening from the airport and took us to our hotel. No lines at the check in, got a 4th floor dormer room with an excellent view of the magic kingdom. We were pleasantly surprised to find a bottle of champagne on ice awaiting us along with a red rose and a card with a photo of prince charming and cinderella congratulating us on our anniversary!

The room was very nicely furnished, clean and comfortable. Every evening we got turndown service which was nice to come back to after a long day enjoying Disneyworld. This is a good time to visit as the crowds are very small so we didn't feel overwhelmed by too many people.

We ate at the Grand Floridian Cafe on one day for lunch, good service as well as the food. On two evenings we ate at Narcossess which were excellent. Again, the food and the service were so good...

Mizner's lounge was ok but it didn't have the elegance of the rest of the hotel with it's service. It's not a really big place and if it got busy they only had one server on the floor and one bartender which could mean a wait for a drink at times.

My husband and I came here without children and have to say it is a good place for couples who want to have a romantic getaway. I would never travel here tho in the summer or other busy times as I'm sure it would take away from the relaxing atmosphere..

One more thing, make sure you use the Magical Express service...very convienient!
