My husband 7 year old daughter and I stayed at the Pop Century in a "preferred room" for 3 days in March. This was our 3 trip to the Orlando area, but first experience in a "disney property" We were excited about the magical express, however it did not quite work out for us. Our tags and package did not arrive before we left so I called the resort 3 days before we left and was told to go to guest services at Orlando airport, which we did. I was not told the luggage would not arrive for over 5 hours after we checked into the hotel. If I had been told this would have picked up our own luggage and brought it to the hotel. Instead we arrived from Chicago in sweaters around 8:00 at night, with no PJ's or swim suits or anything, until around 2:00 am. We were quite arrgravated. The people in charge of luggage at Pop Century initially said they could not locate our luggage, at all. Finally after making calls to Southwest, they eventually located it.
The food court was horrible, crowded and the food was disgusting, and I am not picky. The pricing was outrageous. Between waiting in line for food, and waiting in line for the busses, both to and from the parks, I felt like we were all sheep, you really are captive, unless you have a rental car.
The buildings remind me of military barracks, and I was in the military, so this is not an exageration. I could hear people using the bathroom, flushing, coughing next door. The beds were very small and very uncomfortable. The rooms are less than basic and not up to the standards of even a Holiday Inn.
The pools and walking paths are nice. But for the price we paid for this one room we were able to have a 4 bedroom townhouse at another resort. Would much prefer to stay in a townhouse/condo off the Disney Property, the time that you save in getting too and from the park was not worth it to us.
I did not expect a luxury hotel room, I knew this was a value resort. There are so many non-disney properties which are a better value.
