After I had booked this holiday I discovered TA and read some disturbing views of this hotel, but I have to say it was not as bad as I thought it would be.

When we arrived at reception the staff were very pleasant and checked to see if our room was ready. We were given a room on the 4th floor which from what I had read was the better of the floors to be on as not as many bugs.

When we entered our room we had a bit of of shock as it looked ok. Yes it could do with a bit of tlc but so far so good.

Beds . . . ok not to hard not to soft.
Linen . . . clean changed daily
Shower . . . hot water.
Toilet . . . clean.
Carpets . . . vaccumed daily
Air com . . . worked never switched it off.

We stayed there for the full 2 weeks and never saw any bugs in our room or on the stairs.

As for the rest of the hotel, we didn't use the pool or the bar or the shop but they looked ok, lots of others using them but we used the hotel to sleep and shower only. Getting up, showering going for breakfast on I Drive and only returning to go to bed at night.

The whole hotel does look quite dated and could do with a major overhaul but if all you want is a bed and a shower in an excellant location then it serves its purpurse but if you what 5 stars you will not get it here.

Wet n Wild is only about 5 mins walk. Universal 10 min drive. I Drive a couple hundred yards.

If I was in this area again I may stay here again and if you are just about to go don't worry go enjoy your holiday and do what we did . . . use it as a base only.

Myself and 12 year old booked via Cosmos 30/06/07-14/07/07. It is the worst hotel I have ever seen in my life..and I've been to Egypt, Turkey etc. Cosmos moved us after 2 nights, telling me that they have had to move 75% of guests this season alone. Discustingly filthy corridoors, tables in breakfast area, rooms (and we accepted the 3rd room as the best of a bad bunch). Dustbins not ever cleaned. We actually nicknamed it 'Roachville'. Another guest woke up at 2am with roaches in her hair!! Absolutely minging is the best way to discribe this dump. Photos uploaded.

Myself, partner and 9 year old son were booked into the Travelodge, International Drive for a 2 week holiday. It cost £2000 for room and flight only, which is not cheap as we learned from other holiday makers. The brochure's picture looked good and the discription was good. The only thing good about the hotel, was that it was beside Wet and Wild water park. The room was totally disgusting, over-run with cockroaches and there were mites crawling all over the head board, round the sink and over my partners case. The carpet was filthy, the non slip in the bath was curling up and the shower water was cold. There was dampness on our matresses and the bedding looked like it had been there from the 70's. There was a micro-wave lying on the floor in the corner of the room. The swimming pool area had cigarete buts lying all round it, and the ice machine looked very un-hygenic. Ourselves and another couple asked to be moved to an other hotel. The rep came and took photo's of our rooms and swiftly found us a different hotel. We have complained to the travel company hoping that they will refund the extra money that we had to pay to move hotels, but of course they are slow to reply! We are also upset to see it advertised in next years brochures. I would urge people not to use this hotel

“Hotel Was Basic But All You Needed =)”

We stayed at the Travelodge American Way for 2 weeks in June/July. Overall it was a good experience and we didn't have many problems.

ROOM

Basic but was cleaned every day with fresh towels left and beds made. Hairdryer, iron, cofee maker and TV all worked fine without any problems. The safe was included in the price but you do have to pay $35 for a 2 week stay. People have said there were only 10 channels on the television but as i smartly figured out if you scan for channels you get 42 =D including numerous american news , sports and cartoon channels.

STAFF

All staff were very helpful and pleasant. Towards the end of our stay there was one issue when a group of teenage boys were causing some disturbance in the next room so we did call reception to be moved the next day. They were very sympathetic and moved us straight away without any fuss. If you happened to still be in your room when the cleaners came around they were very willing to leave you some fresh towels without disturbing you. Overall they were very cheerful.

HOTEL

The reception was open to 2am and staff were always willing to help you with any problems. It was quite spacious and had many handy leaflets and coupon books laid out to one side. You must try the chairs though..they are the most comfiest in the world =D. There was internet access but it was quite expesive. The laundry facillities are good value for money with a washing machine and tumble dryer both priced at $1.25. The pool was warm in general and very relaxing. The poolside bar was great value for money especially the drinks with a large glass of Cola etc for just over a dollar =). The breakfast buffet had a choice of 3 types of small muffins, 3 doughnuts, fresh fuit (must have !) and 2 types of cereal. There was also choice of cofee, apple or orange juice. The hotel also offers a free shuttle bus to Sea World , Disney and the Universal Parks

LOCATION

The hotel itself is just about a 3 minute walk from the main street where all the shops and restaurants are. It was about a 15 minute walk to Wet And Wild and if you take the corner on the opposite side of the water park and make a straight walk up for about 25 minutes you come to both the Universal theme parks. There was also an I-Ride bus stop (which we used regularly) about 4 minutes from our hotel which the buses took you up and down International Drive and all the drivers were very friendly and helpful. However all the shops and restraunts are easy enough to walk to varying from a 10 minute to 20 minute walk.

RESTAURANTS

We would definately recommend the Golden Coral (stop 16)which had a wide range of different foods which would meet everyones tastes. Also CiCi's Pizza Place was definately host to the most friendly staff with all of them greetin you with a ' High Welcome To CiCi's ' or a 'Bye Thank You' and the pizza and pasta were delicious.

OVERALL

We had a great stay in the Travellodge Hotel and would recommend it to anyone as a base as you really are only there to sleep !!!

“Bugs Bugs Bugs!!!!”

Travelodge International Drive/Universal Studios

This review could have been so much better but the hotel DOES have a serious bug issue. We were shifted 4 times during our stay, the first time was due to ants in the room, the other 3 were the dreaded cockroaches.

Having got that off my chest, strangely I was impressed with the place. It is ideally located, a 20 minute walk to Universal, 5 minutes walk to Wet n Wild and a 2 minute walk to the nearest Iride stop and restaurants.

As others have said, linen was changed daily, the rooms were distastefully decorated (not that it mattered) but were kept spotlessly clean. TV had around 10 channels, the airconditioning was noisy but only in the last room we sampled. The swimming pool was usually busy which meant I could have a nice pint when the kids were there. Vending machine and gift shop were well stocked if a little pricey. Staff were pleasant and done there best each time we were shifted. There was no wireless internet although they had a pricey broadband connection in the lobby. Breakfast was very basic - we usually ate out each day.

On a VERY big plus side, the hotel has just changed ownership. They have plans for Fridges and Microwaves in all rooms and more importantly they are closing 4 rooms down at a time, bug busting them and then redecorating. The whole hotel should be finished in 6 months.

Would I go back? Most definitely yes but only after they've sorted the bug problems out.

I have camcorder pics that I'll sort and post in due course.
