We spent 6 nights at the Four Seasons Palm Beach. We have stayed there several times over the last 10 years and the service issues that they had back in 2001 seem to have been corrected. We asked for the room that we had on our honeymoon, or at least a similar one. We were told at check-in that they had a better, upgraded room for us, but it wasn’t so----it wasn’t on the 4th (highest) floor, and was facing the pool rather than outward. We immediately called and asked for a new room, which we got and we were happy. I noticed that the first room had some issues with the bathtub (rust stains, looked old). When we checked out, the person at the desk apologized for the room mix up.
The people working there are the best, from the doorman to the concierge---everyone was friendly and helpful. Our room was cleaned spotless twice per day and comfortable. Only one day our room wasn’t cleaned and it was 2 PM (we had been out of the room since 9:30 AM). So we called Housekeeping---they were very apologetic and it never happened again.
This is not a snooty property---it is quiet and comfortable. I would not recommend it for families except those with toddlers or with kids who are older/quiet/bookish.
The great thing about this property is that they don’t nickel and dime you for everything; I think it’s ridiculous that hotels at this level charge for a beach chair and umbrella. This property does not. Another example: in the morning the hotel has complimentary coffee near the lobby (until 8 AM) and then most of the morning by the pool.
Katrina did a number on the beach at the hotel---it’s quite a steep walk down from the top of the beach down to the water, and the sand isn’t as nice as it used to be. The sand looks better further down at the public beach at Lake Worth.
I wouldn’t want these comments to hold folks back from going to this property because it is wonderful, but because we know this property so well, here are some really nit-picky comments that I’m hoping the hotel will read:
*The L’Occitane amenities are great, but the lemon fragrance is too much like citronella candles. Lavender or a light scent would be better.
*The bathrooms have been the same for the last 10 years--- on really close inspection we could see that the floor tiles were worn (not shiny) everywhere but on the edges.
*The beach staff are wonderful, but the beach itself could use cleaning---we saw straws, cups, some newspapers, and cigarette buts more than we should have. Also, ants seem to be a problem near the vegetation at the top of the beach.
Some restaurant recommendations since it’s quite expensive to eat all meals at the hotel: John Gs (right next door for breakfast---get the almond French toast), Suite 225 (sushi in Lantana), Bimini Twist (dinner inland on Okechobee, but worth it), Middleastern Bakery (for lunch in West Palm---looks like a parking lot, but the vegetarian food is great), Too Jays (breakfast or lunch in Lake Worth), Bizarre Avenue Café (dinner, Lake Worth).
