St Andrews is a two-part state park. Part of it is accessible by car, has a couple of nature walks and some very nice beaches. The entrance fee is $5. They have beach chair rentals, a small concession shop and another store where you can buy some groceries. The first week of May when we visited was not crowded so there was plenty of room on the beach for us. Some folks were catching flounder near the breakwater at the inlet.
Across the inlet is the other part of the park...Shell Island (although we didn't find many shells). It was cut off by a hurricane some time ago and is only accessible by boat. You can take your own boat or boat service is available at the park (every hour), from the Marriott hotel (if you are staying there), or on the Ashley Gorman from the Hathaway Bridge on US 98 like we did for $21 per person. It was a very nice 3.5 hour tour with 1 hour on the beach at Shell Island, a half hour of porpoise viewing and it included a sandwich, a bag of chips and a Pepsi.
We enjoyed visits to both parts of the park.
