My boyfriend and I arrived on 5/3 for an anniversary vacation and checked out on 5/6. We loved it there and would definitely stay there again. Here are my thoughts:
Lobby - Kind of dark and muggy and we both thought it could stand to be updated. We didn't spend much time there, though, so not a big deal. There is a free computer with internet in the lobby that was convenient the one time we needed to use it.
Room - Again, with updates I think this hotel could be beyond gorgeous. It's outdated but we didn't mind at all. The room was spacious and clean, the bed was GREAT, the shower water was nice and hot with great pressure and the view from our balcony was to die for. We had a direct view of the pool below and the beautiful ocean beyond that. We often sat out there for hours just listening to the waves and enjoying the breeze. There isn't much privacy (your next door neighbor's balcony is only a rail away from yours) but that wasn't a huge deal for us. Our neighbors were older and didn't bother us. Now being used to flat screen tvs in hotel rooms, it was a bit of a shock to see an older model but it worked so no complaints. I loved the huge mirror on the closet doors and we liked that the bathroom is pretty far away from the sleeping area. The doors to the balcony are quite heavy and they do slam when closed. We heard this quite often but it really wasn't much of a nuisance. There was also a small safe in the room that we used to store our valuables when we left. This was a nice convenience. Be warned that when the AC kicks on, you'll definitely hear it but it keeps the room really cool so we didn't mind.
Tiki Bar/Pool - We did not use either of these amenities during our stay but the pool did look nice and clean and I saw several people over the weekend eating at the Tiki Bar. On certain nights, they have a solo singer that performs outside at the Tiki Bar. He does a pretty good job (Margaritaville was our favorite song lol) and some people outside sang along with him. I could definitely see how this could be annoying to someone who wanted quiet. We could hear him even with our balcony door closed. We, however, didn't mind.
Beach - We took advantage of the beach and stopped at the Tiki Bar booth to rent two towels, two beach chairs and a cabana. All that came to only $20.00 that we were able to charge to our room. Paying cash was also an option. They give you towel cards at check-in. Be sure to return those at check-out as we did read on the back of the card that there would be a charge if they weren't. The beach was great and felt very private. One day during our stay, we lazed in a hammock and watched a couple get married on the beach. The beach is definitely a perk to staying at Beachcomber.
Parking - We had a rental car and most times we were able to easily find parking in the primary hotel parking lot. Parking is free (and the parking lot is well lit) which is a huge plus. The one night we came back really late we had to park across the street in the 2nd lot. It's pretty dark over there and honestly, I would not have felt safe walking through the parking lot and across the street by myself. The area the hotel is in IS NOT sketchy by any means but that area is dark. I'd just advise to use caution if you have to park there.
Hospitality - We did not have our room cleaned while we were there and did not have much other interaction with the staff. However, everyone was pleasant and check-in and check-out was nice and easy. They do have a gym that is not on hotel grounds that we did not use. However, the afternoon receptionist told us a lot about it and she was very pleasant whilst doing so.
Complaint - As this was an anniversary trip, I planned to have a fruit tray, cookies and champagne delivered to our room upon our arrival. Planning this was easy and I was able to do this a few days before our check-in. When we arrived, we had about 20 minutes before we had to leave for an appointment. I was expecting our room service within this time. It did not arrive. I snuck away and called the front desk at around 12:10pm (was expecting the delivery at noon) and was told that it "was only 12:10" and I'd be transferred to the Food Manager. I was transferred and told it was on it's way up. At 12:45 (!!!) we finally got the delivery. My boyfriend loved it and he was surprised but the delay did make us a bit late for our appointment. Additionally, there were no cookies on our tray. Only the fruit and champagne. I emailed a few days after our check-out to see how they hotel wanted to handle my complaint. Within a day, I heard back from the Food Manager telling me I'd get a full refund on the cost of the room service. In my eyes, this is great customer service and I appreciated their gesture.
All in all, we had a great stay at this hotel. We would definitely stay here again. If I somehow heard that they did a complete renovation, this would hands down be our hotel of choice on every trip we make to Florida.
This may not be the hotel for you if you want peace and quiet at all times. But if you don't mi...
