My husband and I just returned from Casa de la Paz, and we had a lovely, romantic experience just a short walk away from everything historical, interesting and fun in St. Augustine. Within blocks are antique shops, gift shops, historical tours, and the fabulously ancient Spanish fort. We brought our bicycles, and used them often because parking is terrible in such an ancient city whose streets are really cobblestone alleys (quaint, but dangerous for driving). Nearby, if you get into your car (which is conveniently parked on-site or nearby--for free!) you can see the fabulous beaches blocks away, where kayaks, sailboat rides, or river cruises can take the place of a nice day at St. Augustine Beach. It was almost perfect for two nights in the cheapest room: gourmet, healthy breakfast was scrumptious--but not exactly in line with my diet (which was promised). Such a minor detail means nothing compared to the kind innkeepers, WiFi access, lovely balconies, historic charm, and old-fashioned hospitality that included the availability of all-day coffee/tea, wine, and delicious cakes. Highly recommended (and often booked solid well in advance). We'll return and send our friends!

My wife and I had a great time at this B&B last week. It is perfectly situated at the middle of the waterfront in downtown St. Augustine. The innkeeper George was very hospitable and accommodating. My wife dosen't really ever eat breakfast and when she does it's cereal with milk. When George found out he went right out and got her a box of her favorite cereal.

The rooms (we stayed in one and look inside 2 others) are quaint, clean and comfortable. The views from the rooms in the front of the home are spectacular. George always had baked goods and wine out in the afternoon for guests. Another advantage is that it has it's own parking.

St Augustine is a fantastic little town-easy to get around without a car (parking is very bad in the afternoon and weekends). I recomend the orange and green trolley tour-3 days for the price-you can get on and off at your leisure. The tour of Flagler College is worth the time (makes me want to go back to college) as is the tour of the Fort.
For beer enthusiasts there is a micro brew ale-house the A1A alehouse downtown which was good. Also on the Southwest corner of Hypolita st and St. George pedestrian walkway there is a small row of shops inside of a small building. All the way in the back of the row is a small restaurant (Rendevous restaurant/bar??) that has over 180 bottled beers from around the world for you to try with a beer menu and pretzels to snack on while you are there.

“Excellent B&B!!! Stay Here!!!”

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in June 2005. I didn't get to write a review sooner due to time constraints but after a bad experience in another B&B, I felt compelled to share our experience at Casa de la Paz.

Pros:

1.) Nice location. Within walking distance to most attractions.
2.) We stayed at the Ponce de Leon room. The room was very nicely furnished and the closet was huge. The room was spacious, immaculate and the view was just simply the best!!!
3.) Ample supply of soft and fluffy towels which made a big difference!
4.) Ample supply of bathroom items and toiletries
5.) Delicious breakfasts served hot! Large servings, we never left the table hungry!
6.) Lots of beverages to choose from (bottled water, variety of sodas, etc.)
7.) Wines and homemade desserts
8.) Very comfortable bed with high quality sheets. Sleeping was definitely heaven!
9.) Cable TV, telephone, wireless internet
10.) Complimentary Parking
11.) Excellent Customer Service! Our room was kept immaculately clean everyday. George and Kathie Dann were always there to answer any questions and give suggestions (where to eat, directions, etc). At the same time, they were not intrusive so if we wanted to be left alone, it would have worked out too. :-)

Con:

1.) Shower was a bit small. Water temperature was hard to adjust but in the grand scheme of things, this is a very minor concern.

We enjoyed our stay and couldn't have asked for more. The next time we're in town, Casa de la Paz will surely be our B&B of choice.

“Wonderful Stay”

Casa de la Paz Bayfront Bed and Breakfast

We stayed in the third floor LA VISTA MANTANZAS room. I must say the jacuzzi tub and fireplace kept us very happy, climate control was exemplary and at our beckon desire. This B&B has a "Glassed-in" view of the bay next to everything, what a wonderful place to stay, within walking distance to shopping and eating at the very best establishments, and the open "train" transport for 3 days at a price of $52 for two. I STRONGLY recommend using the train transport or walking, streets are narrow and so many walkers and joggers making driving a chore, if not dangerous. The best LARGE WINDOW view of the bay is the PONCE DE LEON room which is HUGE and on the second floor, you'll need the blinds for privacy. A PRIVATE entrance room is the CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS on the second floor but the view isn't the best. We slept very well in the quality queen bed. We really enjoyed the wine tasting nightly, and watching the sunrise in the "glassed-in" sitting room in the mornings (facing east) while sipping coffee before breakfast. Horse drawn carriages are positioned right across the street from the Inn, designated by the municipality. The Inn keeper is very pleasant, a people person, and we saw HIM eating at the same restaurants that HE recommended, simply nice, cordial, and the best service. This is a very well maintained B&B with fountains and an outside sitting area. I've tried to be as honest an accurate as possible in my judgement of our stay, SHE is extremely happy which is so important to me.

My wife and I stayed at the Casa De La Paz for our 15th wedding anniversary in December and had a wonderful time. The new hosts were pleasant and made our stay very enjoyable. They arranged everything for our stay and were extremley cordial. The B&B is right in the middle of the Historic District and within walking distance of all the great restaurants and shops that St. Augustine is famous for. We look forward to our return visit.
