“We would recommend without hesitation. Although not a high end accommodation we were very comfortable, place was sparkling clea”
The cozy inn, 202 San Marco, St. Augustine, FL. Right next door and behind the "historic district" hampton inn (2050 ponce de leon), and near the"historic district" best
Amenities plus: comfortable queen bed, wifi, microwave, refrigerator, programmable coffee maker, dining table with two chairs; bedside table at each side of bed, big mirror over dresser.
Amenities negative: almost no shelving in closet above hangers; small closet area; no luggage rack; very small bathroom; no tub; no outlet near the dining table;
Good to know in advance: discovered an air wick plugged into bathroom outlet - promptly removed. if you are sensitive to perfumes you may ask that your room not have one of these when you call to reserve.
Other features: all standard rooms are single story and parking is right outside your door. This is a mom/pop style inn - exceptional friendly service, very clean, very quick and easy check-in.
Other comments: coffee maker was programmed by previous guest, and it went on by itself with no water - this seems dangerous. While property has wifi, no password was given out at check in. We did find the password in the info printed on the tip envelope. The room key is a real key, not a key card. There is only one unused accessible outlet in the bedroom - near the left bedside table; the (small) tv is positioned on dresser to the right side of the bed, though since it is small it can be moved and turned a bit for easier viewing. The choice for a couple is, do you want the tv, or the outlet?
Price: $69 per night AAA rate before taxes mid-week in mid April after Easter holiday.
Upgraded rooms were offered at $119 night- nearly twice the price.
Other property choices considered: Hampton Inn next door had a $75 roomsaver coupon and would have included breakfast. We were turned off by the reviews as well as difficulty when we called them to discuss the coupon rate.
Also considered staying at one of the many properties near I95, but didn't want to drive 20-25 minutes each day into the old town.
Tips: Kingfisher Grill had excellent food very reasonable price, great wait staff, view of the water and bridge from outdoor seating and you may be able to get a "free drink" coupon from the cozy inn. In the same area as the Kingfisher Grill was a great place to get breakfast or lunch called Fish Tales Market Grill. They have outdoor seating with water view outside in back, or if you prefer non-smoking outdoor seating along the side. Very accommodating to dietary needs, and inexpensive, and will do take out as well (this worked well on morning of departure as my husband picked up breakfast while I packed.) Don't miss Flagler College tour or Lightner Museum (find a docent for best experience) and eat lunch in lightner's pool's deep end - it really is neat, especially with live piano.
