Complaint:
As we drove up to the Safar Inn, we were greeted by prostitutes and drug addicts walking around the premises . I asked my wife to lock the doors until I returned from the office. I told the manager as kindly as I could that we did not want to stay, that it looked dangerous. She said cancellations had to be more than 48 hours and refused to cancel the reservation. I said, there were only a few cars in the parking lot, so we couldn't of tied up the last room. She could not have cared less.

I went back to the car and told my wife what had occured. Then a man presumably the owner came up to the car, my wife lowered the window thinking we could speak with him. He stuck his head in, and shouted that we didnt deserve to stay at his motel, he continued to be verbally abusive and physically challenge me. We quickly drove off quite shaken.

I needed to cancel a reservation today, Wednesday, for Friday check-in. The hotel manager is charging me for the room plus tax. According to him, Friday starts at 12:01 AM, be warned. He is claiming that I am not giving 48 hours notice. I advised the manager that I might re-book with him, but he would not budge, insulted me by calling me a liar and hung up the phone on me. Please do not use this hotel. Sarasota is much too nice to have to put up with this type of treatment.

This place is AWFUL! Where to start? OK - it's a dumpy little motel right on the main drag so you can hear traffic all night. Office was unattended but there was an outside phone to call someone. The room was damp and dank smelling. The A/C worked but it blew a wet & cool mass of air. When it cycled during the night - it woke us up it was so loud!
The sink was chipped and rusted. Faucet fell apart when I tried to use it (fixed it with my car tool box). Took two hands and me standing in the shower pulling with all my strength to get the shower to work. 1 face cloth & 1 small towel per person. Asked for an additional towel and was told NO by the owner/manager. Coffee maker - but no coffee.
Look - just stay somewhere else. This place is a ripoff for anything more than 39 cents!
