We chanced upon De Soto Park while staying on St. Pete Beach. This place is amazing. The sands are soft and white. The ocean is blue and green. We saw at least six dolphins swimming in front of us. It's a great place to look for shells and birds. There are bike routes and ample parking lots for cars. This place is a must see.

Have visited several times over the years. The beaches are great (voted #1 beach in USA in 2005), Lots and lots of picnic areas, 2 fighing pears and 10 miles or more of bike trails. The price of $5 is right too. Only negatives on this trip were that both of the bait shop/snack bars at the 2 piers were closed. At least we should have been told that the only place available was in the campground.

I love to walk the beach at the far end. The park is huge and there are many things you can do there, but I just love finding seashells.

We had a camping group of two families (2 sites) and tent camped December 7-9, 2012. This was our first time at this campground. I had heard that there are a lot of raccoons and yes, there were. Being seasoned campers we were prepared and secured everything. Even the coolers, which they were able to lift the lids. The other family we were with had small children (ages 1 1/2 & 2 1/2 yrs old) and a raccoon had started to walk right up to one of them because he had food in his hand and the raccoon was curious. The raccoon was shooed away easily, but just make sure to be alert. The campsites were a nicely sized and suitably secluded from each other. There were alot of trees and foliage - they were really nice sites - beautiful campground and park...but, there was one downfall - the ground is very, powdery/dirty in the camp sites. The ground is a crushed shell type of stuff, but some of it is just so ground down that it's powdery. Now I must say, it wasn't too big of a deal for my family which is 2 adults and our 17 year old son, but for our friends with the little ones..oh geez, those kids loved playing in that powdery dirt and were filthy the whole weekend. So they had fun (this was their first camping trip), but I'm stating this for a heads up: If your traveling with younger children, just to be prepared. Extra clothes/shoes, especially if you're planning outtings outside of the campground. Extra rags/washcloths and "soap in a stocking" (or pump liquid hand soap) to have handy at the water spigot. We took bikes and the roads in the campground were easy to ride and there is a paved riding path through the park that is very nice. Don't forget ot visit the beach - it's beautiful as well!

Interesting place to visit. Park was along a bike trail from downtown. We spent several hours sitting in the shade reading. Very relaxing and not very crowded as are many areas near here during Spring Break.
