Alright, so after spending this last weekend (oct 9-11, 2009) at the Old Clayton Inn I can say that we’ll probably not be returning. The place is literally 15-20 years overdue for an overhaul. They used to have a “famous” breakfast, but now it has gone continental….very continental: prepackaged muffins, little cereal boxes and OJ. That’s pretty much it. This trip, their “internet thingy”, their words no mine, (wireless router) had died and they didn’t deem it necessary to have it fixed so no internet. The AC unit made a horrible noise the first night, and combined with a loud rattley ceiling fan, my wife barely slept. By the next morning we were dying from heat. I brought up the issue with the front desk. We were in a queen room but only a double room was available. We were gonna take it because double beds are better than dying from heat stroke but a phone call later and were in the king suite. So in the end they solved the problem and the rest of our stay was comfortable because we were in the biggest room. But still, everything is SUPER dated. One positive, the water pressure is ridiculous, so the morning power wash is nice. Unless of course you’re sensitive, then it’ll hurt.
The staff is super nice, but everything is really old. Really really old. Not dirty or gross, just old (although our shower curtain had stuff growing on it.) They serve lunch and dinner, but we passed. Although we did hear all the old people (as in elderly) raving about it.
In the end, it was nice in a sentimental kind of way but that’s about it. This was our second time in two years, and definitely the last.
Oh and don't be fooled by the online picts as I was. There is a picture they use that shows nice black furniture and it seems up-to-date. Its not.
