My family & I booked a king suite and a double bed suite at the Holiday Inn Express this past weekend for my husband's graduation from the Troy University - Fort Benning campus. I didn't know what to expect because I had never been to a Holiday Inn Express - or to Columbus, GA for that matter. I was pleasantly surprised from the moment we checked in at 10pm as I was greeted by the front desk attendant with a smile and a bottled water. The lobby was attractive and even had a huge fish tank. The hotel was very quiet and I noticed video cameras mounted in the hallways for safety. The rooms were spacious with a pull-out sofa and were EXTREMELY clean!!! Everything in the entire room - including the restroom - was neat, crisp, fresh, and impeccably clean. That is the most important thing in a hotel room for me! The bed was comfortable and the linens were nice. The tv was a pretty big flat screen and worked well. There was more than ample lighting and I enjoyed the benefit of being able to control the room temperature by the thermostat. There was a small microwave and a mini-fridge and both were in good working order. There were plenty of towels and sample-size toiletries and they apparently provide complimentary toiletries if you forget yours at home. The shower was gleaming clean and the water pressure was great (although my mother-in-law said the water pressure was a little low in her room). There was a small closet with several hangers and and iron and ironing board that was a great help to us. The desk and chair were sturdy and the wireless internet was a godsend. Our room was on the 4th floor facing the parking lot and Exit 10 and we did not hear one peep of noise from outside. The hotel is extremely close to everything - especially Texas Roadhouse. Within walking distance you will also find a Burger King, McDonald's, Rite Aid, a cleaners, I think a gas station, and several other places. It is about a 15-minute drive to Fort Benning. This hotel really surprised me because I always thought of Holiday Inn Express as a basic, no-frills hotel, but I had every one of my needs met... and EXCEEDED! I will definitely be staying at a Holiday Inn Express again the next time I need to travel!
