“A clean, soft pillow in the middle of an frozen city, but would not stay by choice”
First, we didn't pick this hotel ourselves. It's what we were offered when we got stuck in Atlanta's ice storm in Jan. 2011.
Second, I understand it's a "value" hotel and didn't cost us much, so can't compare it to our normal chain choices (e.g. Fairfield Inn, Hamtpon, Spring Hill, etc...) - to paraphrase an old joke: Q:" "What kind of hotel can you get for $49 a night?" A: "THAT one."
The bright spot was the staff at the desk, who was doing a great job amid a sea of tired, cranky, complaining people, all stuck for days in the ice. Cleaning staff were also great.
And it was certainly better than sleeping 2 nights on the airport floor. And the room was at least fairly clean.
Having said all that, I'd never have chosen this one on my own.
For starters, it's quite old and showing its age both outside and in (it's the style I remember as a kid, 2 stories with balcony/hall running along the front and back were you enter - not internal hallways
It is close to the airport (10 min. in good weather - over an hour for us that time), but there is not much else nearby, notably restraunts. The only ones were a Subway and Quizno's, both (understandably) closed due to weather (we ate from the gas stations near) but even in good weather, you'd have to drive a ways, it seems to eat..
Carpet, linens, towels all threadbare, but at least clean.
It is hard to give an overall score, since it was really cheap, clean and a place ti lay our heads, and our view was probalby colored by being stuck away from home 48 extra hours (even though I held off writing this to try to be objective). But in the end, I had to score it as I would if I was chosing a hotel myself, and I would not chose tihs.
I've seen the management answer other on-line reviews of this hotel (nice that they do it) saying "this is not a luxery/5-star hotel, so don't expect so much", but in my mind it's not even a family/affordable class, but an extreme-value/extreme-economy hotel. I could only recommend it if your main critera were cost and you needed close to the airport. I'd rather pay a bit more (we usually stay with the family in the $60-100 range, depending on locatoin - last week stayed a Indy Airport Crown Plaza for only $84 and it was an awesome facility, so just being close to the airport should not drive the setup/cost).
