We stayed at the Jekyll Island Club hotel for 3 nights approx two thirds of the way through a touring holiday in the US.

We were really pleased to have picked the place. It has lovely surroundings, and the hotel restaurant and lobby bar are very good. The hotel restaurant in particular is truly stylish (take some smart clothes to eat there in the evening) -and it was nice just to be able to come downstairs to eat after 10 days of going outside where we were staying to eat.

After 10 days of non stop sightseeing we chilled out at Jekyll. For other Brits doing Savannah and Charleston, I would suggest a few days relaxing at Jekyll.

The only caveat is that if you are going to spend time at this grand old hotel, do not expect decor etc to be perfect. Our room was great - lots of space and a spectacular view but the decoration was not perfect.

Similarly one night the waiter had to cover a vent with a menu in the dining room to stop a cold draught from the vent system - but we did not care.

In my opinion, this is a special place, but I quite understand that some people will not think so. It depends what you like.

By the way the Island is really nice, with great beaches. You could stay somewhere else on the island, but it would not have the style or the good food.

I wish I had checked traveladvisor before staying here. I had read several articles about Jekyll Island and the renovation of the Inn. I expected Williamsburg Inn level and it was far below that. The property is gorgeous and the staff is friendly. The food was "white bread southern" and the room was tacky. Days Inn quality bedding and ammenities. The visitor center was pushing a $49 a night special at the Beachside Inn - wish we had stayed there. We did not stay for breakfast. Would not recommend except to tour, maybe have lunch. Beautiful island.

Spent two weeknights in the Jekyll Island Club Hotel and had a very good time! Our one-bedroom suite in the main bldg. (sans water view) was very clean, spacious and comfortable, esp. at the bargain rate of $159. per night. The bathroom was a bit dated, and the hot water did not work very well in the sink. Their own brand of toiletries are very nice and were replenished each day (also sold for $4. EACH in the gift shop!) The towels were above-average and plentiful. The king bed was comfortable, the temperature was fine and there was no noise from our neighbors. The on-site food is very good but a tad over-priced. The heated outdoor pool, the grounds, the other bldgs. and the views are all terrific!

This is a very quiet and romantic location in off-season. Great for couples, but not recommended for children or singles.

Recently stayed at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel for two nights. After reading some of the reviews before our visit I was a little skeptic but can honestly say that our experience was a rather pleasant one. Unless you appreciate history and older hotels this may not be the place for you. Everyone we came in contact with were very polite and friendly. Our room was clean and room service was prompt. We would not hesitate to return.

This was the coup de grace to our vacation along the coast of America. We had been looking forward to staying at this historical hotel for months. I disregarded all of the bad reviews beforehand and am glad I did.
The hotel inside and outside is gorgeous. Simpy breathtaking. The floorboards are wide and creak. (It is a shame that they use bleach on them weekly, however) The lamps and furnishings are antique or very good reproductions. The rooms we had at the front of the club hotel with adjoining veranda's were marvelous and huge.
We rented bikes and biked the island within 3 hours. There's mini-golf and the pool was fantastic and mostly empty with a great bar on the side. We dined at Latitude 51, the best blackened shrimp I've ever had, and the Crane Cottage, absolutely fantastic including the great, mostly hungarian staff. The soltera cafe is great for breakfast or pizza dinners. Jekyll Island is remote and there's not much to do besides relax and enjoy which we did.
The only fault and it's a whopper, is that the valet attendants/bellmen were without a doubt the rudest men on the face of this earth. It got so bad, that I complained to the front desk about their overall behavior when dealing with us (bikes/car/luggage) and actually started to cry! I've never in my life been treated with contempt by someone who parks cars and totes bags for a living. I've done it myself 20 years ago and I would never have dreamed of being so nasty to anyone much less a customer. The front desk offered kleenex and many apologies and I will admit that they were all a lot friendlier the following days.
If the hotel has outsourced this activity to an outside company, I would strongly recommend that they think about insourcing, since that would help the overall service rating....
However, we didn't let it get us down for long and really enjoyed the rest of our stay....
