We stayed at the Jekyll Island Club hotel for 3 nights approx two thirds of the way through a touring holiday in the US.
We were really pleased to have picked the place. It has lovely surroundings, and the hotel restaurant and lobby bar are very good. The hotel restaurant in particular is truly stylish (take some smart clothes to eat there in the evening) -and it was nice just to be able to come downstairs to eat after 10 days of going outside where we were staying to eat.
After 10 days of non stop sightseeing we chilled out at Jekyll. For other Brits doing Savannah and Charleston, I would suggest a few days relaxing at Jekyll.
The only caveat is that if you are going to spend time at this grand old hotel, do not expect decor etc to be perfect. Our room was great - lots of space and a spectacular view but the decoration was not perfect.
Similarly one night the waiter had to cover a vent with a menu in the dining room to stop a cold draught from the vent system - but we did not care.
In my opinion, this is a special place, but I quite understand that some people will not think so. It depends what you like.
By the way the Island is really nice, with great beaches. You could stay somewhere else on the island, but it would not have the style or the good food.
