With a plethora of places to stay at, we chose Magnolia Inn & Suites in Pooler GA for our overnight stay on our drive from Florida to Virginia primarily because of the reviews it was given. We were slightly disappointed with the comfort of the beds and pillows (and I am not ordinarily a "princess and the pea" type gal. The room was well appointed with all the accouterments normally found in your typical hotel room (but they were crammed all against one wall). The room felt a bit squished, not "suite" like at all, and while the bathroom area(s) - the sink was an alcove off the sleeping area- were clean and new looking, the toilet/shower room was difficult to get into comfortably with a door that opened in and took up most of the space, forcing the incoming occupant to press up against the far wall before being able to shut the door. The light switch also turned on the fan, creating a sharp noise for other sleeping occupants of the bedroom to deal with. All of which was minor and easy to deal with. The facility appeared new, no funny smells, and was very clean looking, always a plus in my book. I was a put off by the location of our room. When I checked out early in the morning (5 a.m.) there were only 6 cars in the parking lot, and yet the gal who checked us in put us on the second floor at the farthest room down the hall. I have no idea why she chose to isolate us. I'm in my early 50's and was traveling with my husband, so we weren't exactly a party risk. They don't allow dogs, so that was not an issue, and yes, I could very easily have complained, but it was late and I was tired, and it didn't really bother me that much, but it was a bit of a puzzle for me. They have another curious policy that didn't interfere with our stay at all, but bears mentioning in that they do not man the front desk 24/7, instead locking the building up, including the hallway door leading into the lobby, and have a call button for late checkin/early checkout. After hours they have you coming and going via your room key from a side entrance. It was funny as I came off the elevator to the first floor, still half asleep as I brought my luggage out to the car to be confronted with a solid door where I thought the lobby was. I must have turned around three or four times before I figured out what was going on. All in all, it is a perfectly fine, economical place conveniently located off the highway with several fast food and a couple of sit down restaurants in easy walking or driving distance.
Make sure to mention that you don't care to be put in a room a good hike away from the elevator...
