This is the second time I've stayed at the Palmer House; I was so pleased to see the lovely updates in the guestrooms! The room I had during this stay was absolutely lovely as well as very, very clean. Others have noted (most likely due to the age of the hotel) sounds may be heard from other rooms. I am a sound sleeper though and had no problems at all. Also, most other travelers were here on busniness, thus no late-night rowdiness in the hallways. The staff were helpful, pleasant and prompt. The lobby is always busy and crowded, but that adds an air of excitement to the stay! The Palmer House is located in a great spot - within walking distance of lots of things.

I was in Chicago for a conference and stayed at the Palmer House for four nights. Not one night did I get a restful sleep. The hotel has not been soundproofed, so you can hear everything around you from loud televisions to slamming doors. This lack of soundproofing is very evident when the L Train passes by every five minutes.

During the time I stayed at the Palmer House, construction was taking place on the floor above mine. The work started around 6AM with a loud jackhammer device shaking the walls. There was also some construction taking place in the lower level of the hotel where one enters from the street. The smell of garbage was strong.

I would not recommend this hotel for someone looking for a restful sleep.

A bad experience. Lobby scene a zoo, 25 minute wait to check in with no signs of concern from management, reserved room type not available, rooms are very loud, $11 surcharge to use exercise room......

“A Nice Weekend”

The Palmer House Hilton

5 Nov 2007

We stayed at the Palmer House for our anniversary weekend Nov. 2-4. Upon arriving, we realized that it was the last weekend of the World Boxing Championships and there were many teams from all over the word staying at the hotel. It was extremely busy! The lobby was huge and very beautiful, but it was always very packed and we were never able to find a seat. I received a renovated room with a king sized bed upon request. The gentleman who checked us in was very kind and efficient and more than happy to honor our request. Our room was a nice sized room with a very comfortable bed. The only problem with the room was that the walls seemed very thin and we could hear the tv, shower, talking, etc. from the rooms that surrounded us.
Since the room service menu seemed very pricey, we walked to a nearby restaurant for dinner. The location of the Palmer House is excellent. We walked Michigan Ave. and was always able to find affordable dining only minutes away. When we needed a taxi, we were always able to hail one right away from outside of the hotel.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but would have liked to relax at the lobby with some drinks!

    • Disliked — How crowded the lobby always was, fairly noisy room.

“Really enjoyable stay”

Very enjoyable stay. Extremely comfortable room, bathroom very clean.
Stayed for 3 nights, and ordered room service on the first night, the
food was delicious and there was lots to select from the menu.
Another night I ate in the Lobby as the Bar is undergoing renovation.
The menu only offered a fraction of what was available for room service, and the food and drink was overpriced. The breakfast was a very good service, with the downside of also being overpriced.
