“Great location but very noisy”

Affinia Chicago

This hotel is situated in a fantastic location literally 150m off the magnificent mile. The foyer is simple but spotless and exudes a wonderful lemon fresh smell eveytime you walk in. The rooms although slightly small are furnished to a high spec and the hotel gym has everthing you could ask for. Unfortunately there is one seriously big problem, when they refurbished this hotel it would apear to me that they never changed the windows and the street noise is horrific. One expects a few sirens in a big city but this hotel is situated on the same street as a hospital and you have the constant sounds of sirens throughout the night. When we first arrived in the room I actually thought the window was opened and we knew immediately that we would have problems with it. After the first night we went to a local Wallgreens, bought wax ear plugs that mould to your ears and that certainly helped although they do take a bit of getting used to at first and certainly not what you expect when staying in an hotel. One other thing that has not been mentioned is that directly next door to the hotel is currently a construction site, to be fair the only problem here is once again when the trucks back up you can clearly hear the beeping from the reversing lights. Although noise is a problem if your happy to wear a set of ear plugs this is a lovely hotel in a great location.

Loved this hotel when it was the Fitzpatrick, and for everyone who
was patiently awaiting the complete renovation when it became
Affinia - man, was it worth it!!! The service of the staff is still
outstanding, very accomodating and friendly. (See Marisol for
special requests!) The rooms are lovely, and the beds are heavenly! The rooftop bar is great - especially on those balmy
summer nights; however, the lobby bar is nice too. WIth the
perfect location, it's just an all-around fabulous hotel to stay in.
(Skip the pizza joint next door - the long lines suggest the pizza must be out of this world - but it's not - there is much better
pizza to be had in Chicago!)

My husband and I went to Chicago for 4 days with no children, for some relaxation. We had a very enjoyable stay at the Affinia.

All the renovations were complete, except the rooftop bar which was opening the evening of the day we left.

The hotel has a very streamlined and clean look. The workout room was very nice. We stayed in a regular guest room, it is perfect for the person who is going to be exploring the city and not hanging out in your room. If you plan to spend a lot of time relaxing in your room, you may want to step up to a suite.

Some people complained about the ambulances at night, but I think this is an issue in any large city. I didn't notice them once I fell asleep.

Great Place, highly recommend.

“A taste of luxury ,just off the magnificent mile.”

Manchester UK

We booked a trip to the US in March through an agent who booked our Manchester to Chicago flights and our Flight from Chicago to San Diego 3 days later , but failed to secure any of the 3 Hotel options that we had given her. So we decided to do it ourselves - Hotels in the Chicago area were 'all' fully booked up, the only other option (we were told) was to stay at one of the many Airport Hotels, This I'm afraid is not an option - Who wants to go on holiday and stay 18 mile away from all the attractions that you have come to see ? Not me that's for sure.

So after spending a week trawling through the net to find a hotel , we came across the AFFINIA - The website said that the hotel was having a huge facelift and would be ready by June 2008 (we arrived on May 31st) but the website made the hotel look very very classy - the only stumbling point was the price £730 for 3 nights ! That's over $1400. At this point we were at risk of ruining our holiday before it started, so we bit the bullet and paid it.

When we arrived we were about an hour early , the reception staff and bellboys could not do enough to help, the lady on reception said the 'Suite' they were preparing would be ready in an hour. Id did not click at the time , but that's why we had paid so much, when we returned (from the fantastic Italian restaurant next door 'Ginos East') we were given our key and told to take the the elevator to the 28th floor.
The 29th floor was the new roof-top bar which they were putting the finishing touches to so the 28th floor - with it spectacular views- was pretty much as high up as it gets !

The second we opened the door , we knew that the place was a little special - you enter to your office that over looks the lounge with its floor to ceiling windows (displaying Chicago's impressive skyline in all its splendor) as you ascend the steps into the lounge, the bedroom (a similar size to the lounge) comes into view with its huge bed and 42" HD-L.C.D TV that swings between bedroom and lounge , past this is a dressing room , with ample wardrobe space (complimentary safe, hair dryer, Iron and Ironing board) and the beautifully decorated bathroom.

In my humble opinion this is what luxury looks like, and although it cost more than what I would've wanted to pay, I thought it was worth it to spend 3 nights in pure comfort (always helps after a 11 trip) with views to die for.

The position of the hotel is quite simply unbeatable, You are a 2 minute walk from the 'Magnificent Mile' which is Chicago's 5th Avenue ,5 minutes from more themed Restaurants and bars than you can shake a stick at & a 10 minute stroll from 'Navy Pier' not to mention the great Restaurant next door , so you never have to spend hours looking for somewhere to eat, on that subject - I have one gripe , if I'm paying $1400 for 3 nights in a hotel I don't ever expect to have to pay $50 (inc: tip) for a buffet breakfast for 2, but - I enjoyed my stay so much that I would never knock a star off for something that trivial

We understand this hotel has undergone a recent refurbishment and it shows. Everywhere was clean, fresh and modern - the suite we stayed in was immaculate and we loved the revolving TV for viewing in bed or seating area. They have just opened a roof bar/terrace which is great for views over drinks.
The location is perfect, however what makes the hotel great for us is the staff. Without exception they were all friendly and helpful without being insincere. A special mention to two people, the concierge Chris - who was a mine of information on where to eat and drink- and the doorman Victor whose warm personality and humour lifted the whole experience. They are both an absolute credit to the hotel and worth looking out for if you go.
The only downside was that our suite was next to the lift/elevator which although not too intrusive was noticeable, especially a night ,and maybe some investment could be made in better soundproofing?
It's our sixth visit to Chicago and this is easily the best experience we've had and was also good value.
