I had high hopes for the Conrad. I used a large chunk of my HHonors points to stay here during a conference so that my husband and I could enjoy a luxury hotel. We were not impressed! The service was, by far, the most disappointing aspect.
The room was small had nice decorations, a huge flat screen TV, and nice BOSE sound system. The bed is terrible; my husband complained of back pain after the first night. The tub is the bathroom is tiny; we never used it. The Molton Brown tolietries were nothing special. I was beyond irritated when I had to call housekeeping to bring us a new set of tolietries because no one bothered to replace them after two days. Then, it took over a half hour and a second phone call for the tolietries to arrive. This process was repeated a second time, a few days later. This is unacceptable in a luxury hotel. At a regular Hilton, the tolietries are replaced everyday, used or not.
The Terrace Bar was great the first night. We loved the view of all the skyscrapers nearby. On our last night, we received awful service. We were ignored for 20 minutes after my husband finished his drink. We finally got fed up and told the hostess our room number and left. Again, just unacceptable given the "atmosphere" of the hotel.
I ran into another problem at the business center while I was trying to print up tickets for a show. The mouse on the computer didn't work, rendering the computer useless. We called for help, but no one came since the business center is farmed out to another company. No one at the front desk seemed to care that we might have missed our show. Luckily, a manager let us use her computer to print the tickets, but we still have to resovle the issue of getting the initial $16 internet charge refunded. What a pain!
I would not stay here again the next time I come to Chicago. I would rather be at the regular Hilton on the executive floor where we can get complimentary breakfast and turndown service that actually includes chocolate- what a concept!
