The "Cloud Gate" sculpture is mesmerizing...like a giant, silver jellybean!
The millenium park was the place we visited. It is really amazing, especially on a clear day. Lots of stuff to do around, and get some good pictures!
Relatively a small park, however is visually stunning. Great way to see the city's skyline when juxtaposed with nature. Also the infamous Crown fountain and the Cloud Gate structure are the highlights of the park and should not be missed on a trip to Chicago.
I love parks. They are the best of public spaces because they combine so many elements that attract so different types of: Sculptures, monuments, fountains, performance venues, gardens, sports areas, playgrounds attract art lovers, history buffs, music fans, gardeners, jocks, kids and others. Millennium Park takes all the conventional features of popular parks and moves them into the 21st century.
It is a park for the way we are today.
I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite feature. I love the free-from Pritzker Pavilion - love the way Frank Gehry bends and twists metal. Cloud Gate is inspired - it's so much fun to "find yourself in the bean." The gardens are lovely. The fountains are incredible. The walks, the paths, the visitors, the locals - wow! This is a gem of a place to wander and people watch.
The park has everthing...cool fountains, iconic sculturse, a lovely garden across from the great Art Institute. How can this not be the #1 sight in Chicago? We saw an amazing Beethoven concert in the super cool pavillion..and it was free.
