Creeeeeepy service. If you request a newspaper, you can expect that someone will try to enter your room early in the morning to let you know they have delivered your paper!!!
Here's what happened: I was awakened from a sound sleep at 5:43 in the morning by a knock on my door and the sound of my name being whispered. I sprang up from my bed, and said "what". The person on the other side, then tried to enter my room!!! I said "What!" again. Then he knocked again, whispered my name again, then left.
I got dressed, ran into "security" in the elevator, and told them what happened. The "security" person acted like this was normal and that I was the problem. He actually seemed annoyed: asked me, "how come I didn't come down to the front desk" (I was...why do you think I was running into you in the elevator at 6:30 am), maybe it was my colleague (no, she's female staying at another hotel), maybe it was because I requested a paper. I went to the front desk, and they were downright hostile. This is apparently normal behavior here! They said it was all my "fault", because I had requested a newspaper! Then they all asked, me, "what do you want us to do?". Just so you know, if you ask for a paper, you can expect someone to wake you up from a sound sleep and try to enter your room to deliver your paper!
Finally, I made a 3rd attempt to talk to someone in charge. About an hour later. I came downstairs to leave, and this time, I specifically asked to speak to a woman. One emerged from the back. (Why do they have her in the back?) Finally! Someone who "got it". She, too, was surprised, and she was also sympathetic.
Honestly, this has happened to me in 3rd world countries. I didn't expect it here. More significant than the event, was the 3rd world response by security and the front desk.
To be fair, to the manager's credit, he did call me back that night at 5:23, asking that I call him back by 5:30. The next night I found a bottle of wine and some apples in my room. A nice gesture, to be sure. But really, this hotel, needs a whole new look at the world of guest management.
Not good for female travelers. Do not request anything to be delivered to your room.

I’d like to extend my sincere apologies. I understand why you would have been alarmed at someone knocking on your door so early in the morning, and I want to assure you that making our guests feel safe and secure is our main priority.
After looking into this incident, we discovered that it was the mistake of one of our housekeepers who did not follow proper protocol when delivering your newspaper. Since newspapers are only delivered upon request, the housekeeper thought they had to knock on your door to ensure you received it, rather than simply leaving it outside of your door for your convenience. Our Director of Housekeeping is making sure all housekeepers understand the proper protocol for this in the future and extends his apologies.
I am also sorry that you felt our staff did not take your complaint seriously when you first went down to speak to someone. We strive to treat our guests with respect and you should have been treated accordingly. I understand that two of our Front Desk Managers and our Director of Rooms made multiple attempts to speak with you while you were still staying in the hotel to explain what happened, but have yet to hear back from you. If you would like to talk to someone, please reach out to us at email@example.com and someone will respond promptly.
