We visited Chicago in February 2008 and found Silversmith to be a great hotel, with a great location. We were in a king suite #701, and were concerned about the train noise, which was never a problem. On occasion we heard a swish of noise, but nothing that disturbed us. Very comfortable bed; 2 TV's, very large bathroom with tub and separate shower. Lobby is large with lots of warm wood paneling; reception staff was very friendly; check-in smooth; and questions pertaining to the area were graciously answered. The location of the hotel is only a few doors from the Madison & Wabash "L" stop in the loop (orange line from Midway Airport). Hotel is one block from the Macy's State Street store and one block from Michigan Avenue and Millennium Park. We had the best pizza around the corner from the Silversmith. Pizano's is rated Chicago's #1 thin crust pizza and in my opinion it's the best pizza I've ever had. We also ate at Ada's Deli, which is adjacent to the hotel; they are open early and stay open late. We did a guided tour of "The Chicago Theater" (walking distance from the hotel on State and Lake) and would highly recommend this $5.00 tour. The theater is gorgeous, and to think they almost demolished it in 1986!! We did a free guided tour of the "Chicago Culture Center" (one block from hotel), which is another wonderful building. We took the #151 bus on State street to visit the "Chicago History Center", which is very near Lincoln Park. We did a free guided tour at the History Center, however, they also have free audio self-guided tours available. The History Center has a Wolfgang Puck deli counter where we purchased our lunch and ate in their sunny seating area. We love Chicago, and the Silversmith hotel. The only complaint we had with the Silversmith were their heavy entrance doors to the hotel (off the street). Chicago can be windy, and the doors were especially hard for females to open when it was windy. Note: the hotel entrance is on street level; and the check-in area (lobby) is up one floor. Thank you Silversmith, for our very pleasant stay; we look forward to our return.

“Good experience until we got the bill”

We had a wonderful experience with the hotel and staff until we received our credit card bill. Our bill at check-out time was correct but when we received our credit card bill they charged us twice for one night during our stay. After about 2 weeks of calling the hotel and conveniently the person that we needed to talk to was never there and never returned any of our messages, we finally turned it over to our credit card company to take care of, thankfully it was on our American Express. It is now February and we stayed at the Silversmith in November and the credit card company has still not been able to reach anyone at the hotel who can resolve the charge.

I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you are willing to pay double price, in the already overpriced hotel.

My son and I spent a Saturday night at this hotel. We were in Chicago checking out SAIC and this proved to be an ideal locaton to walk to the Art Institute of Chicago as well as Millenium Park. Extremely easy to take the train from OHare to a stop no more than three or four blocks from the hotel.

Hotel was clean, attractive, and the staff where competent. The staff at the front entrance gave us lots of good advice on food and getting around.

Great experience overall. I plan to go back sometime to visit Chicago with the rest of my family and will stay at this hotel.

I'd stayed here about a year ago, but I just had my first stay since the Silversmith became independent. All was fine; the room (916) was clean and had a great bed, the front desk folks and bellhops were courteous and attentive, and the internet worked fine (though not wireless). I also paid for several rooms for my colleagues and the front desk made the process easy.

The location is fine although it's right under the El tracks; request a room away from the train if you're concerned about the noise (I was on the opposite side of the hotel and didn't hear anything).

“Great Location for Weekend Shopping Trip”

The Silversmith Hotel & Suites

While not located in as glamourous an area as the N. Michigan Ave hotels, the Silversmith was a very positive experience. All shopping was within walking distance - the State St. shopping area was right at our doorstep. Excellent location also for theater, cultural and Soldier Field. Staff was very friendly and helpful. On site deli was convenient and hotel bar was lots of fun; it was nice not to have to venture outside on frigid January nights to have a nice evening out. The train noise which I had read about in other reviews was present, but more of a distant background noise which did not keep us awake at night. We took the advice of locals we met at the bar not to venture more than a few blocks south of the hotel.
