We just returned from Chicago after staying at the Hyatt Deerfield. I have really been around to nice hotels, and I must say that the Hyatt does really well for itself. We stayed there because they are Six Flags Great America's premiere hotel partner. That means that Six Flags and the Hyatt have a deal where you can get a normal room with 2 six flags tickets for only 149 dollars!! That's a great deal considering that normal six flags tickets cost 45-55 dollars.
The rooms were almost like suites. You enter the door, and see a 'room' (I'll explain the '--' shortly) with a couch, a desk, and a few chairs. The couch faces an entertainment center with a depth of the wall that divides the 'living room' and the 'bedroom.' Really, the room is just one big room with a small dividing wall on the back. But what the hotel does is it puts an entertainment center with a TV that can swivel to face both the living room AND the beds, so it seems like you have to spacious rooms. The feeling that creates is really home-y and nice. The bathroom included very nice toilitries (citrus and lavendar work well for me). The beds were very comfortable.
The swimming pool is small, but the health center with excersize machines was really big, and included many pieces of excersize equipment.
The morning breakfast buffet was VERY expensive for the weekday that we were there (16 dollars!!!!). While I have paid that occasionally to have those breakfast buffets, I have done that only when at the Ritz Carleton or Disney where you EXPECT those prices. The Starbucks offered some pretty crappy looking muffins. Fortunately, there was a Starbucks about a mile and a half down the road (take a left from the hotel), which had a better and CHEAPER assortment of breakfast items.
Overall, it was a great stay because it offered GREAT prices on the rooms, and the rooms themselves were very spacious and comfortable. While not within walking distance of the six flags property, it was only a 20 minute drive, and the hotel itself was cheaper and nicer than the big chain hotels closer to the Six Flags property.
