Decided to stay at the Stillman after reading reviews in Tripadvisor. While a couple of the recent reviews were somewhat negative, most were overwhelmingly positive. Considering one of the negative reviewers was put off by the Owner/host being too friendly it was hard to take them too seriously. Myself, I rarely complain when someone is friendly.
Our congenial Host, Dave, called the day prior to our arrival to introduce himself and check if we needed any directions, verify time of arrival, and inquire is we had any other requirements. Upon arrival Dave greeted us and spent about 30 plus minutes showing us the Inn, telling us about Galena and making restaurant and activity recommendations.
We stayed in the Loves First Touch room. The room is a very nice size with a gas fire place and very comfortable queen size bed. There is a window air conditioner which did the job of cooling the room just fine. Bathroom is small with the sink just outside in the sleeping area. We did not find this an inconvenience, but some might.
Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 9:30. Most guests showed up close to 8:30. This was great because it made for enjoyable morning conversations. Dave did the serving. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. You will not leave hungry. Plan on a late lunch.
The location of the Inn is very good. It is just down the road from the US Grant house and within walking distance to downtown. We choose to drive 2 minutes to the park at the end of the road where parking is plentiful and save the uphill walk back to the Inn. From the park it is a very short walk to the downtown.
The Stillman is a great place with friendly Hosts. We highly recommend a stay.
