This is not a destination motel. You probably won't want to spend much time here. But if you want an inexpensive place to stay while you're visiting or working in Chicagoland, it will work for you.
First, the negatives: They initially put me in a smoking room, when I'd reserved a non-smoking. In their defense, the desk clerk was trying to get me a room with microwave and refrigerator, but the only one available was smoking. I moved to a non-smoking non microwave room instead.
Next, it's noisy. I had a lot of traffic noise, even at the back of the motel. And I heard a lot of noise from the next room-a couple of times a night.
Parking is available, but parking spaces in the courtyard fill up fast and you will probably end up parking in the lot next door. You may end up playing parking lot Tetris as semi cabs take up a lot of space.
The room was OK, but I did find a condom wrapper behind my nightstand when I looked for an electrical outlet. The clock radio woke me up beeping in the middle of the first night, and there was no setting on the controls that would turn off the beep. So I unplugged it.
The internet was spotty. It would work great for awhile, then just quit. It always came back within a few minutes, but I wouldn't count on it for doing work online.
The advantages: It's a lot less expensive than a hotel in the city, parking is free, and breakfast, although modest, is included. The bed was comfortable. But there was no temperature control in the room. The best I could figure out was how to turn on the fan. In early April, I didn't need much heat or A/C, so it was OK.
If you're staying here and using public transit into Chicago, I'd suggest the blue line CTA station in Forest Park. It's about a 10-15 minute drive from the motel, and they have a huge Park and Ride lot for only $3.00 per day. If you're looking for a good selection of restaurants, or a place to window shop or hang out in a coffee shop, downtown LaGrange is just a few miles farther out Ogden Ave.
