My wife and I recently stayed at the Super 8 Motel in Peru, IL on our return from a trip to Georgia. I had stayed at this motel in May, 2000 and we ended up with the same room I had during my stay ten years ago. The motel has been remodeled some and had some cosmetic updates, but the basics were the same now as ten years ago--a simple room for an affordable price at a convenient location.
The room is what you'd expect from Super 8--basic furnishings for an affordable night. It had a small table and a recliner, which was the only room I had on our week and a half trip that had one and I was ready for one! My wife thought the bathroom was the best one of any of the rooms we stayed in, with ample space and the sink in the room with the tub/toilet which she thought was more convenient for her.
The main area for improvement would be the heat control for the room. While it appears to have been recently upgraded to a unit with a digital thermostat, the room ended up getting too hot and we could not cool it down adequately even with the thermostat turned down to 58 and an ambient temperature of about 13 degrees outside. It looked from the outside that the rooms had a mix of Carrier and Amana heat/air units...this was a Carrier, and I believe the room had an Amana unit on my 2000 stay which worked better for summer air conditioning needs.
There was a complimentary breakfast, though I was a little surprised no waffle maker was available; this seems to be pretty much a standard now in any motel offering breakfast, so keep this in mind if you are wanting a little more substantive breakfast.
After two stays, the Super 8 in Peru has offered good service both times, and being a convenient 8-hour drive from Duluth, is a likely first night's stay or last night on the way home stay for many trips I'd make to the southeastern U.S. and will remain on my list to consider for future trips that direction.
