As we were celebrating a special birthday we wanted something special for a 5 night break and we thought we had found it in Faithlegg from all we had read prior to booking. Arriving at the hotel the old house itself looks stunning but it is surrounded by a golf course and car park - this was our first disappointment no nice garden to go with the splendid house to the front - there is a token effort at a garden to the rear but rather small! You can walk to the mews houses but this feels rather suburban! We were greeted by a very pleasant helpful receptionist who took us through what the hotel had to over and checked us in quickly. The next disappointment came on entering the bedroom - very small for what one expects from that class of hotel - but it was comfortable and very nicely furnished and we got used to the size. A very nice bathroom with beautiful tiling and a more spacious feel to it to than that of the room. The room had tea coffee making facilities but no mini bar or safe - there was 24 hour room service though - there were no robes and slippers. The common area rooms and corridor were fantastic and a lovely peaceful oasis. The bar and restaurant served beautiful delicious food so much so that we dined in the hotel every night! The staff throughout are fantastic always a pleasant smile and a greeting, some even offering invaluable information for touring the locality - well done Catriona in the bar who made lots of suggestions which turned out to be great! The breakfast each morning was very good with a good selection but a 5 euro tariff if you chose the fish or omelette option something I have never seen before! The leisure facilities were a big disappointment - very small pool which was extremely chlorinated with cramped changing facilities - no soap or shampoo in shower area! The jacuzzi made up for the pool for the adults - a very large one if a little over chlorinated! The layout for getting to pool was a little obscure you went direct to changing room past large jacuzzi into pool area before meeting any staff - I was left wondering how to get towels etc until I navigated my way through! The tennis courts were great - two well maintained courts and usually free or a very short wait for a game - bring your own rackets - mine broke there and the one I borrowed was well past its best! My daughter enjoyed the well equipped playground. The biggest issue when making a booking is to check if there is a wedding planned during your stay - there was one on our last night and the noise was horrendous until after 2.30 am - our room was a fair distance from the venue but our room vibrated to the sound and we got no sleep until the end of the wedding - if you are not attending the wedding be advised bring ear plugs and request a room the farthest distance from venue - I personally would not return to Faithlegg f there was a wedding on any of the nights of my planned stay! The hotel has many local attractions nearby or within a very short drive - I would recommend taking the Passage East Ferry to South Wexford and visit - Dunbrody, Kilmokea, hook and JFK Park or travel by road a short distance to Dunmore East - a beautiful seaside town and harbour!
Overall we had a lovely break and would return to this hotel - provided there was no wedding on!
