We live locally but stayed here when the air conditioning in our highrise building was not working during unseasonably warm weather. We were looking for a room with a working air conditioner and a comfy bed. This property far exceeded our expectations.
The room cooled off quite nicely and unlike our building, they had switched to air conditioning in response to the weather. The bed was extremely comfortable and had a down comforter (something I love to find in hotels). The cable was adequate, but the channel line up was nothing impressive unless you are a sports fan, then you'll love it. The bathroom was small but nice. The water pressure in the shower was wonderful. While I believe this is an older property, it was exceptionally clean and well kept. Other reviewers had mentioned slow internet, but we were able to connect and stay connected with no issues. We also found this hotel to be very quiet. I'm not sure how full they were when we stayed, that may have affected this. The only con I would I found was the elevators, which are older and slow. They work, but if you don't have a lot of luggage, the stairs are definitely faster.
We had dinner at Jameson's (on site) and were very pleased. The food was amazing and service was good. It's priced comparable to other steakhouses, but you get a tremendous amount of food (including soup and salad).
The check in was extremely smooth and every staff member we came in contact with was very helpful. I originally had called the 800 number to book the Hampton Inn but they did not have any rooms with one bed available. Since both properties are Hilton members, the call center was able to book the Doubletree for me. However, the employees at the call center were very pushy. When they gave me the options for the Hampton, which did not meet my request, they asked how I wanted to guarantee it. I told him I didn't and he continued to push. I'm glad he finally ended up booking me at the Doubltree but I almost ended the call before booking. Then he asked if I was willing to participate in a survey, to which I agreed. Well, I ended up in a typical pushy timeshare sales call with a woman who was relentless even when I continually told her no. I realize this is not any doing of the local property, but this was almost enough to make me cancel any Hilton reservation and go elsewhere.
If we ever have a need to book a room locally again, we would definitely consider going back. However, I would book directly with the hotel or on their website and avoid their call center at all costs.
