We had wanted to visit the Acropolis restaurant for a few years but finally had the chance. It is wonderful. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere captivating, and the prices surprisingly lower than expected.
The building itself is beautiful, with some areas offset and dimly lit for a cozy atmosphere and others more brightly lit with booths or companionable seating.
We enjoyed the gyros platter, and I ended up taking over half of mine home; portions are very generous. I did save room for the baklava, the best I've had since I toured Greece (or made it myself).
One of the best aspects for me was that no smoke was present. Evansville has recently enforced a no-smoking policy in restaurants, although I believe some establishments can allow smoking in bars which are set off from the rest of the dining by a wall. In the case of the Acropolis, we sat on the upper level which overlooked the bar and enjoyed a smoke-free evening.
My only regret is that we had not visited the restaurant earlier.
