Oak Meadow Lodge is a great choice off-the-beaten path that's best if you don't mind some quirkiness. Located on the grounds of a country club/residential development, the place is quiet and beautiful. Since the area is so residential, it can be a bit hard to find late at night (when we arrived) thanks to a blessed lack of neon in the area. Rooms are standard motel rooms, very large, very clean but definitley right out of the 70s - whether that retro feel is a plus or minus is up to you. The front desk is not staffed 24 hours a day, if you arrive after it closes your key is waiting for you at the development's security gate. The pool looked great but has limited hours (kinda like the pool hours at our local Y) - closed Sunday night and all day Monday, so if access is important to you check beforehand. A bit out of the way for restaurants - maybe 10-15 minutes to the nearest breakfast place. All in all, a very nice unique and relaxing place (and very affordable) that is a wonderful alternative to cookie cutter chain hotels surrounded by concrete plopped down next to the interstate. I didn't mind the quirks, the plusses more than made up for them.
