“Nice 2-day get-away”

Turkey Run Inn

29 Jun 2008

We visited Turkey Run Inn mid-May with our two boys (10, 8) and stayed in one of the "cabin" sleeping rooms. The room was very basic, but they met our needs for a night. The Inn, itself was nicely equipped with a restaurant, gift shop, game room, and indoor pool.

The food at the restaurant was tasty and filling - nothing to espeically rave about, but we didnt' find anything to complain about either.

While visiting, the main room (typically available to guests for relaxing and playing board games, etc) was emptied to make way for a square dancing convention going on during the weekend.

We checked out the 2nd floor veranda with the rocking chairs - I could have rocked for most of the evening, but the kids were only amused for a short time before wanting to go and explore the game room - some older machines, but enough to keep two boys interested for 30-60 minutes.

Pros
- Inn is fairly well maintained. Some parts are obviously older, but everything was clean and in proper working order
- Restaurant on site was reasonably priced, service was good, and food was fine
- Indoor pool open year round
- Trails in close proximity to Inn/Cabins were nice
- Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and accomodating
- Rates were very reasonable

Cons
- Sleeping rooms were a little small if staying for more than one or two nights
- No coffee shop for a quick bite in the mornng before hitting the trails
- No hot tub in the pool area - something we'd come to expect at similar resorts. Not critical, but would have been nice after a day of hiking trails.

Overall
- Price was right for the type of room we had. If I'd paid over $100, I'd have expected something more.
- Would definitely stay here again when visiting Turkey Run or Shades Park
- If staying more nights - consider renting the family cabin or overlook cabin for more room

“Great inexpensive family nature get away”

This is a great inexpensive family get away.
We stayed in the Turkey Run cabins. They were clean and quiet but nothing worth using the camera on. We appreciated the old TVs because it made it easier for our kids to try out the many puzzles in the main room and spend time with us reading. Soon the new section of the inn will open and there will be some brand new accommodations. In contrast to the simple but adequate rooms, the trails were wonderfully scenic, the nature center well suited for bird watching (and we joined in the feeding too) plus it was staffed by friendly naturalists. We enjoyed several trails that rival many of the national parks in scenic beauty and interest. Plus they were quiet. If you are looking to get away at least during winter or spring, this is a great opportunity.

“Memories”

Turkey Run Inn

We live in Covington, In and have been regulars at the Inn for 13years. My 13 year old son and I enjoy the sitting room and game room and especially liked the indoor swimming pool. It is a lovely place with friendly people who help you enjoy your stay. Only once did we have a problem with a room which I thought needed a good cleaning. They changed rooms for us immediately. Since that time they have redone most of the rooms. We were very impressed in Sept 07 with everything that had been redone. I reccomend it highly. Some of our best memories happened at Turkey Run.

“Great Hiking - Great Lodge - Mediocre Rooms”

We stayed at the Turkey Run Inn in April of this year. The Turkey Run Inn is about 90 years old. The lodge was actually very nice with a very nice sitting room where you could enjoy sitting by the fire and playing games. The indoor pool was also very nice and the resteraunt was affordably priced and the food was very good. Turkey Run State Park is one of the nicest places to go hiking I have ever found.

The one drawback is that the actual hotel rooms are pretty small and outdated. The beds weren't particularly comfortable and the rooms were probably the smallest I have ever seen. The rooms could definitely use some updating. That being said the rooms were pretty inexpensive so I guess you can't expect too much.

I would definitely return to the Turkey Run State Park and would not hesitate to spend a couple of nights at the Turkey Run Inn. The lodge, pool, resteraunts, and hiking are fabulous. The rooms aren't anything special, but I would not hesitate to go back her for a long weekend.

“Lunch at the Inn - delightful”

Whilst we didn't stay overnight at the Inn we dropped by for lunch whilst in the Park.

We opted for the Soup and Salad buffet at less than $6 each and were astounded by the quality and choice on offer. The two soups on offer (Chilli and Broccoli and Cheese) were delicious - I'm not greedy- my husband had one I had the other!
The salad buffet had many choices and was very fresh. Sometimes salad buffets can become a little messy with people selecting many things and dripping over others but not here- it was immaculate.

Much to my surprise there was also a choice of desserts- Oatmeal cake (which was heaven), lemon pudding and a chocolate mousse.

We simply couldn't believe the value and the staff were so courteous. I'd happily give our server a special mention however sadly I can't remember her name .

We also visited the gift shop and bought some cinnamon glazed pecan nuts ,which my mother has declared are fantastic, and some beautiful cards and notelets.

I can't comment on the rooms but we were very impressed with our experience of the lodge. The areas we saw were clean and well kept and it had a nice feel to it. I'd happily return and I'd certainly recommend the food to anyone visiting!
