We visited Turkey Run Inn mid-May with our two boys (10, 8) and stayed in one of the "cabin" sleeping rooms. The room was very basic, but they met our needs for a night. The Inn, itself was nicely equipped with a restaurant, gift shop, game room, and indoor pool.
The food at the restaurant was tasty and filling - nothing to espeically rave about, but we didnt' find anything to complain about either.
While visiting, the main room (typically available to guests for relaxing and playing board games, etc) was emptied to make way for a square dancing convention going on during the weekend.
We checked out the 2nd floor veranda with the rocking chairs - I could have rocked for most of the evening, but the kids were only amused for a short time before wanting to go and explore the game room - some older machines, but enough to keep two boys interested for 30-60 minutes.
Pros
- Inn is fairly well maintained. Some parts are obviously older, but everything was clean and in proper working order
- Restaurant on site was reasonably priced, service was good, and food was fine
- Indoor pool open year round
- Trails in close proximity to Inn/Cabins were nice
- Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and accomodating
- Rates were very reasonable
Cons
- Sleeping rooms were a little small if staying for more than one or two nights
- No coffee shop for a quick bite in the mornng before hitting the trails
- No hot tub in the pool area - something we'd come to expect at similar resorts. Not critical, but would have been nice after a day of hiking trails.
Overall
- Price was right for the type of room we had. If I'd paid over $100, I'd have expected something more.
- Would definitely stay here again when visiting Turkey Run or Shades Park
- If staying more nights - consider renting the family cabin or overlook cabin for more room
