The outstanding West Baden Springs Hotel in West Baden Springs, Indiana was once dubbed "The Eighth Wonder of the World." I was on a group coach trip up to Mackinac Island in June 2012 and we had a mystery overnight stop here on our way home. What a wonderful surprise! As soon as we approached the hotel's entrance arch we knew that we were in for a special treat. The hotel and grounds are awesome. Our lavish room was huge and simply gorgeous. Our three sets of french doors looked out on to the magnificent 6-story atrium. Our king sized bed was beautifully appointed and quite comfortable. I hated to remove the lucious pillows and satiny bedspread. The well-equipped bathroom was four times the size of my master bath at home and held lovely ammenities. Service and meals were supurb also. We made time to swim in the warm indoor pool and hot tub and also in the surprisingly warm outdoor pool. We shopped at the several unique boutiques.
There is complementary shuttle service to the nearby sister property, The French Lick Resort. This charming property has over 5,000 square feet of gold leafing and other outstanding ornamental features to exdplore. We visited the casino at the French Lick and our party all won small amounts of money there. The staff took time to explain the various slot machine games to us and we each received a free tee shirt for playing with their $5 voucher. We played in the non-smoking area. My husband was quite pleased with the quality of his meal in the casino. It was more than he could eat.
Plan to spend more time than we had at the sophisticated West Baden Springs Resort. Take one of the daily Historical Walking Tour with a tour guide. Costumed Characters representing famous guest convey the history of the hotel on a twilight tour. There is a fee for the tours which last over an hour. Listen to live jazz singing every Saturday in the Ballard's Bar. A harpist entertains in the Atrium every Saturday too. If you visit on Wednesday, Friday or Saturday, stop in at the Late Night Jazz Club in the ornate Caddy Sinclaire Room for easy listening music.
Outdoor activities include bike ridiing.carriage rides, power walks, walking and hiking trails horseback riding (pony rides also) and golf. There are also train rides that I wish that I had time to investigate. I hope that you will be able to do so. There is also a lovely Spa (we received a 10% off couon.)
I highly recommend this hotel to everyone but especially to honeymooon couples, those celebrating a special event and all who appreciate luxury, extravagance and beauty. In our welcome packet we received a $50 room discount at the French Lick to use on our next trip. If I didn't live so far away, I would definitely use it. I will never forget my stay here.
Be sure to use the robes in the room., Theyu are luxuorious.
