Saw this place on TripAdvisor....for a born and bred Iowan this places sounds like a dream.
Gourmet burgers made with Iowa Beef, only Iowa beer on tap. I was all over this place.
Entering the place early on a weekday we were able to get a booth right away but I could see the place having a long wait at a busier time. The place is smallish, but in a good way. Decor is comfy, rustic, harkens back to the time when this spot was a barbershop called Shorts. Antique Barbershop bits and pieces are cute, if nonsensical (unless Sweeney Todd just came to your mind like it did mine...eww! :))
They had a burger named after my hometown in Iowa! Amazing, since no one has EVER heard of it. 100 bonus points. All the burgers are named after small towns or counties in Iowa, a nice touch!
However, my burger was totally overdone. Since the menu specified that burgers are served medium-medium well, I didn't think I would have to give a temperature. Unfortunately my burger came out way well done and even a mound of melted cheese, bacon, and chipotle mayo couldn't mask that. My date enjoyed his chicken burger.
And the fries? Are they serious? They look completely unappetizing coming out, first off. All broken up and limp. I don't know how, as a person who works in the restaurant industry, they can knowingly send something like that out of the kitchen, even if it is just a burger place. They tasted how they looked. It would be nice to get some decent fries with an expensive gourmet burger.
The all-Iowa beer list is a very nice touch. We enjoyed some beer and cider off of it.
Love the concept of this place, hope it was just an off night, would definitely try it again, hoping for better results! The server (blond college student) was very friendly and prompt.
