I stayed at this Super 8 for six nights. I chose this motel based on the two reviews I read in TripAdvisor prior to making a reservation. They have a great staff, they were very friendly and helpful. The room was neat and clean. However this motel is not friendly for persons who have a walking impairment, are handicapped or use a wheelchair. I reserved a ground level floor with two beds. I was aware there was no elevator. Upon arrival I asked for a cart for our luggage. I was informed they did not have a cart. I was also informed their ground level floor was actually down approximately seven steps from the lobby and was really a basement level floor, their second and third floors were of course up several steps (twelve or more). Not friendly for my 84 year old companion (who walks with a cane). I was informed they had one room for handicapped persons (with only one bed) on the lobby/ground level. This room for handicapped is the only room in the entire motel on the lobby/ground level. We kept our room and put up with the nuisance of the seven stairs. However once in this basement room, we opened our blackout drape only to find our window was at the ground level with anyone in the parking lot able to look directly into our room. There was no sheer curtain behind the drape to give any daylight and partial privacy. This appeared to be the case for all of the rooms on this lower level. Because of this whenever we were in our room during daylight hours we had to have the drape closed with the lights on to have any privacy. They had only one parking space for vehicles with handicapped plates or placards. The breakfast room was neat and clean. Their selection for breakfast was: white or wheat bread for toast, English muffins, Belgian style waffles, margarine, regular syrup, sugar free syrup, cold cereal, instant oatmeal, assorted donuts & pastries, peeled hard-boiled eggs, apples, oranges, bananas, milk, soy milk, apple juice, orange juice and coffee with sugar, sweeteners & creamer. The fresh waffles were tasty, however when we were there the motel was at full capacity for one day and they didn’t have the waffle iron out. I guess they only put the waffle iron out when there are just a few guests. I did not use the pool/hot tub, however on that full capacity day many families with children used the pool/hot tub area and really seemed to enjoy the pool/hot tub area! The lobby area is very inviting, lots of newspapers and a computer with Internet access for guests to use. I am not sure I will stay there again when I visit Le Mars because of the extreme limited access for handicapped persons (rooms and parking). Improvements they could make: Install an elevator, place sheer curtains on their lowest level windows and expand their selections for breakfast to at least include yogurt to be a bit more healthy for carbohydrate conscious persons and diabetics.

Thank you to Topping Traveler for staying at our Super 8 Motel, Le Mars, and for their review. There were a couple misunderstandings and comments I would like to clear up.

The reason we do not have luggage carts as it would be difficult to carry a luggage cart up or down the steps. We are in compliance with all handicap regulations as to the number of handicap rooms, and the accomadations in that room. First floor is actually down 4 steps (not 7), and 2nd is 10 steps up ( not 12 or more). We don't consider this a basement because it is actually our first floor. Our waffle iron was down during your stay as we were waiting for new plates to be delivered. We pride ourselves on our breakfast, and do not set certain items out on certain days. This would not be beneficial to us. It would not be feasible to add an elevator, as the cost would be enormous, and impossible to have an elevator go down 4 steps. Our breakfast is above and beyond the Super 8 regulations for breakfast. We feature many more items than Super 8 requires of us, and have always had many compliments on it. Even diabetics and senior citizens have thanked us for the variety. We hope Topping Traveler chooses our motel the next time they are in Le Mars.
