I booked a stay at Aleksander House based on all the positive feedback I read. However, I am sad to say, my husband and my stay did not live up to the greatness experienced by others. We were pleased with the look of the first floor of the inn - it did have the charm and character I was hoping for. Aside from that, I felt the decor in our individual room did not mirror the quality we saw downstairs. The bed linens were old, faded and in need of an update. The website for the inn stated the room had a "private" bath, however we had to walk out of our bedroom and around the corner in a common hallway to get to it. I don't consider that to be private. Parking was also on the street, which the inn keeper said was "safer" than parking behind the inn. I don't mind parking on the street, but this one made me a little uncomfortable. Breakfast was better than some we have had, but nothing to rave about in our opinion. Maybe we caught the inn keeper on an off day, but we just did not feel our stay was deserving of the high remarks made by others. I do think this place has great potential, but it just was not for us.

It's always a challenge to travel with your pet, but Aleksander House B and B is the way to go for a stress free dog friendly environment. Not only was Jax welcomed w/ smiles and treats, we didn't even have to keep our 120lb lab in his kennel while we were checking out the sites. The Aleksander House B and B is conveniently located in historic downtown Louisville. We and Jax walked around taking in all the beautiful homes and then cheered on Kentucky at the local restaurant across the street, Carly Rae's. The A. House is a beautifully well kept Victorian Home. We stayed in Katherine's room-gorgeous room. Oh, wait don't let me forget. There were a good variety of refreshments and snacks that were easily accessible. The chocolate chip cookies were the best! If you want to relax and read a book, the living room is cozy but the deck out back is its own little oasis. What also added to the lovely experience was the classical music that was softly playing in the background. One more thing to add is what a great cook Nancy is-the Belgium waffles are to die for! Jax gives Aleksander four paws up and we give it a top rating.

The Aleksander house was brought up on a web search for pet friendly bed and breakfasts in the Louisville area. Finding vacancy and booking online was easy and upon arriving it appeared to be the ideal bed and breakfast. The house itself is located within a neighborhood of Victorian houses, and walking distance to a couple of restaurants with outdoor dining available where pets are welcome.
Aside from an occasional stubborn dead bolt lock that didn’t seem a nuisance as much as it did a reminder to slow down and enjoy the house, we found the accommodations to be what we expected. The room had all the expected amenities of at least a 4 star hotel room with the personality and charm you want from a B & B. There was a decent collection of videos to borrow, though the dining room and parlor took your mind back to the early nineteenth century. The breakfasts were delicious and served attentively. We found ourselves enjoying the company and conversation with others who were staying that weekend. All was about perfect until I was urged to take my dog outside during our last breakfast. We had just been served a warm quiche and were in the middle of conversation when I was approached by the owner and was told to take my dog outside at that moment as his barking was bothering her. The owner had been a school teacher before, and I almost found it amusing that despite holding a post graduate degree I was made to feel as if I were back in grade school being scolded. I thought it quite rude how I was asked to leave in the middle of breakfast to tend to my barking dog who was responding to a puppy staying in a nearby room. We checked out an hour later with no plans of returning. Despite this, overall we had a nice stay, but we would recommend if you have a dog that is as vocal as my yorkie, leave him home. If you do bring such a pet, beware of the owner.

“Charming inn, with all the amenities of a luxury hotel”

Our visit was during the Old Louisville Garden tour, July of 2007.
We were so happy that we were able to stay right in the midst of the historical area. What a delight to have a large and comfortable room with all the amenites of a pricey hotel. The decor was perfect, and we are quite picky....since we have been in over 100 B&B's in our travels. The breakfast was amazing, the complimentary snacks and drinks a wonderful surprise. We enjoyed our conversation with the innkeeper, Nancy, and she was so informative about what to do and see during our visit. Can't wait to go back!!!!!

We enjoyed our two night stay at the Aleksander House - right in the middle of Old Lousiville. The location was perfect for us as we were visiting town for my huband's 50th High School reunion. He had grown up just 3 blocks away and we explored his childhood home, elementary school and high school by foot.

Our room was large and comfortable and very cool - important since the outside temps were approaching 100! Nancy provided cold drinks in the fridge in our room plus homemade cookies available at any time. The bed was wonderful and we enjoyed the full gourmet breakfasts. If an ensuite bathroom is important to you be sure to check if your room has one. We had a private bath nextdoor to our room which was a bit inconvenient, but not a big problem.

The decor is lovely and the entire house very serene. If only we had had another day to relax and watch a movie. This is where we'll stay anytime we're in Louisville.
