I frequently travel for business and have stayed at the Stockade three times now, each time in a different room. Here are some of the highlights of each:

Escape room: This room is very large, with 2 beds, beautiful marble floor and countertop in the bathroom. The bathroom has a bidet, something kinda fun for us Americans who don't normally have them.

Red and blue room: This room features an adjoining 2nd floor balcony which is beautiful and especially nice for smokers (no smoking in the house).

Garden room: This room has a deep Jacuzzi tub and the best shower I’ve ever taken! It too has an adjoining 2nd floor balcony.

Breakfast is homestyle eggs and bacon or sausage, omelets, waffles etc..all made to order. Janice (the innkeeper) will accommodate timely special requests as well. I'm not thrilled with the coffee, but I admit I am a coffee snob, so I normally stop for a Starbucks on my way to work no matter where I stay. To be fair, I have heard fellow guests compliment how great the coffee is, so like I said, I’m probably much fussier than most.

Really the nicest thing about staying at the Stockade is the company over breakfast. Some mornings it’s just me and Janice; other mornings there's a full house and very lively conversation in the breakfast room. Either way, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming in a way that the chain hotels never are. For someone like me who travels a lot, this place is a refreshing change from the usual corporate travel establishments. Janice also has corporate rates for business travelers, so do ask about that.

Hope to see you there!

Excellent does not describe our stay.

Way Above and Beyond Excellent does.

I had heard of this place through a friend, who spoke highly of thier stay. Upon contacting the B&B I explained the situation my family was in. On Dec. 31 our father died (two days earlier), and since none of us live in B. R., several of us needed a place to stay.

Understanding all this, she not only had rooms for us, she kindly offered to open up her home for the gathering after the internment if we had no where else to go. We accepted, and what an awsome job she did. On this short notice she arranged for all the refreshments, and "fillings."

It's good to see there is still a few people out there who still know the value of Southern Hospitality, and what the neighborly thing to do is.

“Always Wonderful!”

Stockade Bed and Breakfast

17 Nov 2006

I've stayed at the Stockade multiple times during business trips, and every time I do, I have a wonderful time. I've now stayed in every room on the property, and they are all extremely comfortable and pleasant!

This trip, I stayed in the Escape Room the first week, and the Garden Room the second. Both rooms were up to the standards I have come to expect from such a great property. The house itself is beautiful, as is the surrounding wooded portion of the property.

The Innkeeper and her staff worked to make my stay as pleasant as possible. The innkeeper is always just a phone call away, and was available when I needed her one evening. Also, I am, as always, impressed with the cleanliness of the property.

Continental breakfast was available at any time (muffin, cereal, juice, yogurt). The continental breakfast has moved more to self-serve than my last visit (milk and juice in the dining room fridge), but that makes it even easier in the mornings when you are running late. Of course, I chose the hot breakfast most mornings, which was delicious.

The wireless internet, which is a must for me as a business traveler, was easy to connect to and hassle-free.

Needless to say, I will continue to choose the Stockade for all of my lodging needs in Baton Rouge!

The Stockade is one of our favorites. We first spent a week there several years ago, and have returned twice for overnight stays. We enjoy and recommend the Rex Room. This bed competes favorably with the Westin "Heavenly Bed". Our experience has always been first class, from accommodations, to service and breakfast. Janice, the inkeeper, is a helpful, personable and accomodating hostess. Her insights and stories about local history and current affairs contribute to a travelers enjoyment of a visit to the area. We don't even consider other options when traveling to Baton Rouge.

The location was beautiful and the house was very nicely furnished. Breakfast was mediocre, at best. One felt like they were asking a huge favor to request items other than cold cereal...milk and cream had soured and the innkeeper was nowhere to be found! Room, although nicely furnished, need a bit more thorough cleaning. I'd probably check out other alternatives for lodging and cannot recommend this place.
