Like visiting the home of friends who just happen to own a plantation in the Louisiana countryside. Gracious setting, convivial atmosphere, where guests gather for breakfast and rejoin in the evening for wine and hors d'oevures and an formally presented dinner. Meals are traditional country cooking, tasty but not gourmet, and the bathrooms are what you'd expect from a mansion that's over 150 years old--functional, not fancy. Guest rooms are beautifully decorated with many antiques; our bed was extremely comfortable, with great linens and good lighting. There's lots to do in the area, so plan to stay at least two nights; it's a great value for what you get.
