We arrived after a long day's drive, so we were very tired. We noticed the guests in line ahead of us were complaining that their keys did not work. The desk clerk told them she would walk with them to their rooms and use the master key to let them in. Then it was our turn and we were told they had no reservation for us (we had booked the room a day before via Expedia). Fortunately, they had available rooms, so we were given a key and we all went to the rooms with the desk clerk and her master key.

Of course our key did not work either, so she let us in with the master key....and there was another guest already in the room, in bed!

The desk clerk arranged for a second room for us, and again the key wouldn't work. She let us in and as we settled in, we discovered someone's clothing hanging in the closet! Back to the front desk.

Now the clerk upgrades us to a nicer room and gives us a coupon for a free breakfast. Again the key would not work! She let us in with the master key and together we all checked to make sure the room belonged to no one. It didn't, so we stayed. My wife was fearful the clerk would let someone come in on us later that night, but that didn't happen. The room was very nice and clean, but the night desk clerk was clearly not trained well.

We would have left to look for another place if it hadn't been so far away from everything else and so late.

The complimentary breakfast was also poor...service was incredibly slow, and they were out of many items on the menu.

The place was beautiful, and the room was very nice. I reluctantly give this place 2 dots, even though the experience was so stressful, I want to give it 1 dot. Good luck with the staff if you stay here.

My husband and I always rely on TripAdvisor when we are deciding where to stay. We travel extensively and I am very picky about where we stay.
Last week we were lucky enough to find the most wonderful place in the city of Springfield, southwest of Hammond, in Louisiana.
We stayed there July 27, 28 and left the 29th, 2006. We originally booked in a one bedroom on the bottom floor. We booked directly with the Plantation and spoke with Sandi who was wonderfully helpful and polite. She even went out of her way to gather places of interest for us and put them in an envelope waiting for our check in (because she was going to be off the day we arrived).
When we got to our room, before we unpacked we looked around. The room was a nice size and very clean with a king size bed, microwave, small refrigerator, approximately 27" TV, DVD player. Out the window were two rocking chairs with a view of their beautiful golf course. (To get to your patio you needed to go out the door and a few steps around to the sitting area.) My husband looked up and saw an upstairs room with a balcony. We called the front desk and spoke with Brenda (absolutely precious and willing to bend over backwards to help you and get you any information you needed!!) we asked her about the room upstairs, what size it was, and if they had any available. It ended up that room was a complete apartment! As you can see in the pictures it was AMAZING! It had a complete kitchen and dining room. In the living room there was a couch, recliner, 47" flat screen Sony TV with a Sony DVD player. A king size bed, free wireless Internet and a beautiful deck overlooking the trees and golf course. There was a large bathroom with a separate room with a large tub and a separate stall shower. The air conditioning was perfect (not a little window unit).
Brenda gave us a wonderful "down home" restaurant recommendation, Jambalaya and Co. (Fantastic!) which was very close to Carter Plantation and Coffee Call in Baton Rouge.
We will DEFINITELY go back to visit the friendly people and beautiful, clean, reasonably priced Carter Plantation Villa!

Took a while to get to this. We stayed here last jjune for 5 days. Visiting family and wanted some time to unwind. Great place , awesome food. We took the cypress package so my husband could golf. THIS IS A DAVID TOMS DESIGNED COURSE. got the parlour combined with the king veranda. tons of room. we even entertained company. Really enjoyed ourselves, not really alot to do if you do not golf. but I enjoyed reading and tooling around on the golf cart looking a things. No ammenties to speak of like fitness rooom etc. poool was located far away and was not heated, however it was very hot out so kids did not mind. I found the food was very good but pricey for that neck of the woods. If you want quiet time, golf and a decent meal this is a real find. Room was wonderful full kitchen high end beds etc. Would hightly recommend for a golf retreat if you like it very quiet with few people around. My husband loved it, played golf early. read ,had siesta, early dinner, sit on back porch have cigar go to bed early golf agian! You get the picture!
We thought it was a real find !!!!!

We only spent one night at the villas managed by Hawthorn Suites at the Carter Plantation, but it was a lovely facility. Actually the acreage is mostly made up of a beautiful golf course, with homesites for sale and some houses under construction. The clubhouse has a cute bar and restaurant where we were served a full breakfast which was included in our room rate of $107. Our room was part of Villa #5, we had a king bed and a huge bathroom. A bit of explanation should be listed at their website as it's confusing the way these rooms are set up. These villas each have about 7 or 8 rooms, and they share a common livingroom/diningroom/kitchen area. This is a perfect solution to families who would love to have a family reunion/vacation with lots of folks. The villas look like homes, with front and back porches, etc. Each room also has a mini frig and coffeemaker. We were in town for an event in Hammond, LA, and decided to stay here. Although it's a short drive to Hammond, we were very happy to have chosen this accomodation.
