We stayed at the Best Western White House Inn for two nights on a road trip this August. We found this to be a clean and comfortable, though a bit dated, motel. This was not the right location for us as we wanted to be close to Acadia, so while we had originally intended to stay four nights, we ended up only staying two.
Location: We were here to visit Acadia National Park and we had a really hard time finding affordable pet-friendly accommodation in the MDI/Bar Harbor area, so we decided to settle for being a bit farther away. This was not such a good idea. Bangor is 40 miles from MDI, which ended up being over an hour's drive considering there was some heavy traffic on the way over. While we don't blame the hotel for this -- it doesn't seem to be claiming to really be an Acadia hotel -- we would not advise travelers to stay here if Acadia is your destination.
Hotel: The reception area hotel has a really nice whitewashed exterior, with the (far less impressive-looking) buildings actually containing the rooms located behind. This is a typical motel layout with internal corridors and external doors on the first floor. The front desk offers the usual services, and free cookies (really delicious, from Dysart) all day and night. There is an outdoor pool and hot tub, though we didn't get a chance to use these. There is a microwave in the breakfast area for the guests to use.
Room: Spacious and clean, no smoke odor, but the decor and appointments a bit dated. Refrigerator in the room.
Service: Reception staff was really friendly. We had to get a package delivered at the hotel before our arrival and this was waiting for us when we checked in. Housekeeping was on par with a good standard of hospitality.
Internet: Free in-room wireless.
Breakfast: Included in the room rate, adequate quality. Waffle iron, yogurt, cereal, basic fruit, toast, coffee.
Value: We paid $117 per night, including tax, with a coupon code we found online. This is a good value as the proximity of Acadia makes everything more expensive.
